And all the best for 2017. Hopefully it will be a better year for the world than 2016 has been.

Was going to start the same thread. Thanks once again to everybody here and all the best for the New Year.

I do worry that 2017 is going to be more of the same for the world. What could be better than Trump and Putin increasing their nuclear arsenals? (Sorry for not being very cheering!)

I'm now going to meet a friend for a drink and enjoy a much-looked-forward-to 10 days off work. That's a little more positive. And early next year building work at our home will be finished, which'll be nice too (though that's avery middle-class issue...!).

All festive wishes to everyone here !!!

Yes not exactly a particularly cheery world that we live in ? Has it ever been I suppose is the next question ?

On a more positive note I signed a contract for a permanent job this morning. And my children are full of ideas and energy.

Great to hear about the job, Andrew!

It's been a pretty foul year on just about every level. On the bright side, fingers crossed, the local earthquakes seem to be taking a festive break... but I'm still browsing Scottish property lists. Very best wishes to all of you.

Good news, Andrew. On the job and the positive-sounding children (I wish they all were!).

One positive note for me is that I just had a negative bloodtest for taxoplasmosis, after suffering very bad food poisoning in Italy in September (at a Michelin-starred restaurant). But it was a stressful wait for the result...

Merry, merry to one and all. Working on a bolognese sauce and homemade pasta for a Christmas Eve powwow with my girlfriend and her three kids and cranking Beyonce's "Lemonade" to get the culinary juices going. The perfect Christmas Eve morning. Be well, you guys, and here's to a safe, happy and healthy 2017.

Also made a full Christmas roast - accompanied by dodgy Christmas music courtesy of Youtube (though I fast-forwarded through the really, really dodgy ones!). And even though I'm 53 and don't have kids I still love Christmas. With the parents, wife and brothers on Christmas day, and then with friends yesterday. Tomorrow night will be an alcohol-assisted games night, centred around Trivial Pursuit and Articulate.

Hope you're enjoying your respective breaks/holidays/religious festivals. I'm lucky in that I don't go back to work until January 3.
