I hope they bring the string players with them, but it might be a bit expensive to take them further than the Sydney and Melbourne shows. |

Padraig, I would love it if they did but, like you, I am guessing it might be prohibitively expensive. The Glasgow venue only has a capacity of 160 ( a few tables but mainly standing ) which is about about twice / three times the number who attended their gig at the Halt Bar, Glasgow, in the 1980s. It was a wonderful show. I have no idea of the capacity of the Lexington, London, but I am delighted to see that it is almost 'Sold Out' already. I cannot believe I am going to see them again after almost 30 years. If I remember correctly, Kaye was expecting when they played the Halt Bar. It was such an intimate venue. I sat talking to Malcolm before they started and had a brief chat with Paul and Kaye as they were loading their van after the gig. All three were charming. |

Hugh, they are indeed, lovely people. I met them all in a Thai restaurant before the first gig I saw them play - almost exactly 14 years ago. I'd read on their website that they all liked Thai food and took a guess they might be in the Thai restaurant beside the venue before the show. They were, and autographed the best of CD I'd brought with me. |

I just wish a few more of these bands would notice that straggly boot-shaped bit that sticks out the bottom of Europe into the Med. There has been no Italexit yet as far as I know and Milan has some decent venues and could probably rustle up an audience as big as Sion, somewhere in France. Jees. |

Wow. I cannot justify a trip over this soon. All those places I've never been. Leipzig--an old Deutsche university town locked behind the Iron Curtain for 40 years! Just my sort of thing. I saw them here in Silverlake after "Free All the Monsters" which might be my favorite of all their albums. It was a great show. I'd estimate the venue they played here, Hugh, was about 3/4 the size of your Glasgow venue. I wondered how they can make it work financially. I love their great planning. They're saving Paris until they've gotten over jet lag. Milan does seem like a big rich place that could give them a good audience. Or Firenze at least, though I guess that's not much help to Stuart. I envy you who have talked to these artists. I'd have no clue what to say other than "thanks for traveling so far to give such a great show" which I'm sure is nice enough for them to hear but it's not much of a conversation maker. And yet the Bats are the absolute ultimate in personality stability. I should drink more I guess. |

I could make Florence or Milan... it would mean a hotel and so on, but I haven't been to a gig since Kozelek, who managed to fill a pretty big piazza in a small town in central Italy a couple of years back. A magical & funny evening. Even without a fan base - folk are so starved of music here they will happily go to see someone they perhaps don't know very well. And New Zealanders will be used to the odd earth movement now and then. |

Correction to the above. Robert along with Shayne Carter ( Straitjacket Fits; Dimmer ) Lucy Hunter, David Eggleton ( Poet / Writer / Performance Musician ) and Steve Cournane ( Drummer ) will be playing a number of gigs in Scotland in January 2018 and not The Bats. Link to a David Eggleton YouTube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAAn_6zD FJI |

Thomas, There has been a problem with funding for the flights so not going ahead as planned. There is a possibility it will happen in the middle of the year. |

The Bats - Sanary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1gWVmHD 5Co Her little hot room looked over the bay Through a stiff palisade of glinting palms, And there she would lie in the heat of the day, Her dark head resting upon her arms, So quiet, so still, she did not seem To think, to feel, or even to dream. The shimmering, blinding web of sea Hung from the sky, and the spider sun With busy frightening cruelty Crawled over the sky and spun and spun. She could see it still when she shut her eyes, And the little boats caught in the web like flies. Down below at this idle hour Nobody walked in the dust street; A scent of a dying mimosa flower Lay on the air, but sweet--too sweet. A song from the “Mansfield” album project that Charlotte Yates pulled together. NZ musicians were given Katherine Mansfield poems to put to music. The Bats requested a French related poem and were given Sanary. |
