Ed Kuepper, under his Aints band name. is playing (I'm) Stranded and more on its 40th anniversary in a tour later this year. I bought a ticket for the Sydney show in late November. The Aints will feature bassist Peter Oxley (Sunnyboys), drummer Paul Larson (The Celibate Rifles), keyboardist Alister Spence and a horn section. Something to look forward to. http://sa2.seatadvisor.com/sabo/servlets /TicketRequest?eventId=100908963&present er=AUCENTURY&venue=&event=171124FA

Thanks for posting this Padraig. I'd been wondering off and on what Ed was up to and your post finally reminded me to do a little checking. He released an album called "Lost Cities" in 2015! No idea if it's one of his instrumental experimental collections but it's on order.

Lost Cities is not experimental or instrumental (does he have entirely instrumental albums?) but he does play all the instruments on it himself. There is a Honey Steel's Gold feel to some tracks, but more minimalist and bluesy. I love HSG, but I know you don't, Randy. You should find Lost Cities more palatable as it's stripped down. There is an air of melancholy throughout, but that's hardly a rarity on an Ed Kuepper album.

I think there's a touch of Jean Lee about it too, but it's been quite a while since I played Jean Lee, so I could be mistaken.

Honey Steel's Gold isn't my favorite Kuepper album, Padraig, but it's also well above my least favorite. I've always liked the title track, and of course "Everything I've Got Belongs to You" and "The Way I Made You Feel." I loaded up about 3/4 of it on iTunes years ago so it scores alright. I probably like "Jean Lee" better.

I'm pretty sure I have an all-instrumental album of his. You know how he'll mop together a bunch of demos or home recordings? I think he did that for instrumental numbers. I can't remember which one it is. It hasn't rated loading up on iTunes so I can't check right now.

Except for the drums he played all the instruments on "Electrical Storm" so that won't be a drawback to "Lost Cities" as far as I'm concerned. That was back in the day of magnetic tape recording. It's more challenging to multi-track like that on tape. I love "Electrical Storm" but it does have a little bit of a claustrophobia-inducing sound to it.

For whatever reason I thought Ed was just serving as Nick Cave's guitarist and I didn't think to check on new albums for him. It was a little bit less easy to get a copy of "Lost Cities" than I would have assumed. I suppose everybody is reducing the size of their editions because of the popularity of streaming. I'm looking forward to it.
