New Model Army - Heroin. I used to have this on 7", but sold it. I wish I hadn't. Buying it again as a file of ones and zeroes is not as fun as holding a record in your hands. Oh well, at least I was able to get it again. Some just can't be tracked down digitally. |

Superchunk - "Reagan Youth." The new album from these oldsters is an unexpected blast of political disenchantment. I say unexpected because the band's never shown any particular bent toward agitprop, but here are 34 tight, pissed, blistering minutes of righteous rage against the state of the state. If that sounds tiresome, here it's album-of-the-year type stuff. |

Josh Rouse - There Was A Time. It sounds like a Luna song, and it's brilliant. |

"La nuit je mens" by Alain Bashung I hadn't heard it before. A big hit in France, apparently |

Welcome back, Cichli! Yes, "La Nuit Je Mens" is a great classic. And for another side of Bashung's astonishing artistic vagaries, try "Osez Josephine." Recorded in Memphis at Ardent Studios where Big Star recorded. No, it doesn't sound like Big Star. It sounds like Dylan should have. |

Cichli, Have you come across this version live on French TV ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o85WUSqw oeU Bit more "rockist" than the recorded version but I love his harmonica solos... Song of the Day Dominique A - Immortels https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w23I5aRn JK0 Apparently written for Bashung, but it was not chosen for "Bleu pétrole". |

Eels - Mr. E's Beautiful Blues. It has been so many years since I last played this. What a song. Takes me right back to where I was in 2000. |

Pádraig, I can't hear The Whole of the Moon without thinking of the Graham Norton, as Father Noel Furlong, version from Father Ted. It's just over a minute in to this youtube link. Even watching a few seconds of it now made me laugh!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk_-E2eB rrQ |

I remember that, Simon, it was hilarious. I'm not going to click into it now as I'm enjoying listening to R.E.M.'s Live At The Olympia In Dublin album too much. Song of the day is R.E.M. - Cuyahoga, live in Dublin. |

Siddharta - Na Soncu Didn't get close to much Slovenian rock (the radio seemed to be 90% American music) on my recent trip there, but this great acoustic opening caught my attention on the bus radio. Part of the tune reminds me of something else but can't think what. Bit of a fist-pumper, but not bad. Came away with three local CDs from two small shops near the river, still to play them. |
