Wolfhounds -- The Stupid Poor I picked up their reunion album "Middle Aged Freaks" a year or two ago. The final track is great but in general the album did not make much of an impression. Oh well, they're old guys from the 80s so it's not a big surprise if they don't really have it any longer. For the sake of completism I purchased their most recent (2016) album, Untied Kingdom (How to Come to Terms with your Culture). It showed up a half week ago. I eagerly listened to the other disc that arrived on the same date. I figured I'd get to Untied Kingdom when I felt like it. Aretha Franklin - "A Rose Is Still a Rose" Figuring I'd be bombarded by her hits in the coming days, I pulled out my favorite of her later-period records (along with "Who's Zoomin' Who?") and it was just the thing. Released in 1998, the record and its title track are underappreciated gems in her oeuvre, sez I. Also, since the album sounds a little more contemporary and she sounds more present, it had the effect of making me acutely aware she's really gone. | ||

Randy, I loved that song from the very beginning. I still have the original 7"l What a pity that Dan Treacy has such health problems! Hope he is quite ok!! Once met him in 2008 before their concert at the Gloria in cologne at c/o pop festival where I was able to talk with him for one and a half hour! Such a beautiful shy guy and beautiful mind! He signed so many of my rare early TVP records and painted on them - he was so proud to see those records. All the best to you, Dan Treacy! Will never forget! | ||

Andreas I am so late to the TVP and still have only started pulling a few of their records together. I think I first actually heard them 5 or 6 years ago at the longest. Dan Treacy is an entirely unique singer and seems at my limited level of familiarity to be entirely unique, period. I am impressed you were able to talk with him for so long. | ||

Hi Randy, When I asked bis Manager whether it would be possible to meet Dan, at First he Said that this would Not be possible because Dan is quite a shy guy! Then I showed him my TVP Records and he was impressed. About half an hour later Dan and bis Manager showed up again. So this was Not normal for Dan! You See I was very, very Lucky! That's a great story Andreas. As a person who has battled with shyness forever your story really resonates. It's great that Treacy and his manager recognized that you were different than the rest. Stuart, I love that first Who album. It's easily my favorite of their albums and the only one I keep on the iPods. They were essentially the prototype for the next decade's punk. Another timeless number on that album is "It's Not True." Nicky Hopkins, on the other hand . . . Oh well it was a Shel Talmy production and Shel loved having Nicky rattling on pointlessly on most of his releases. He's sort of a barrelhouse continuo that often makes no musical sense in the song. | ||
