RIP Bob Hawke, an Aussie giant who managed to straddle political seams we can't even imagine in U.S. nowadays. A Labor Prime Minister who improved the lot of Australian workers while he allied internationally with Reagan and GHW Bush. And, explaining the thread title, he was a republican in the Aussie sense.
