Four Hours Sleep - When I First Met You. One of two tracks David McComb sings lead vocals on on this 1996 album. This is the better of the two, though the other is great too. The album is going for $79 on Discogs. I just checked my copy and it still has a $2 sticker on it from the St Vincent's charity shop I bought it in. It certainly felt like divine intervention the day I found it. |

There are two sellers of the album on Discogs. The other wants €99 (Au$160) for it. Plus postage. |

Roy Orbison - (All I Can Do Is) Dream You, one of the bonus download tracks from Black & White Night 30th anniversary edition. What a voice. |

Roy Orbison! There is indeed a voice! I love his famous Monument recordings but having heard them enough times I shifted over to his unsuccessful MGM period. The best songs are just as good. The pinnacle is perhaps his seven minute "MacArthur Park"-inspired opus from 1969, "Southbound Jericho Parkway." Definitely an artifact of its time. And that voice . . . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Npc59IHw 8n8 |

The Go! Team - The Power Is On. One of this century’s best singles. Or any other century. |

Sinéad O'Brien - Taking On Time. A post punk/spoken word song, which sounds like it should be awful, but it's great. And she's from the same part of Ireland as I am. https://soundcloud.com/speedywundergroun d/sw030-sinead-obrien-taking-on-time |

The Horse Flies - I Live Where It's Grey https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGAOcf-1 -LI From their debut album 'Human Fly' which was released back in 1987. Apparently a homage to their adopted hometown of Ithaca, New York. Eight minutes and seven seconds long, it takes about one minute thirty seconds to get going. A track from their last album ( Until The Ocean ) which was released in 2008. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1S8VBRp7 ch8&list=RD1S8VBRp7ch8&start_radio=1&t=1 1 |

The Horse Flies sound like semi-acoustic post punk. Or a blend of Hawkwind and Dando Shaft. Or maybe like Australia's Dirty Three with occasional vocals. Quite odd. Definitely NOT the "alternative country" that one of the youtube texts claims. |

Nico & The Invisible Girls - All Tomorrow's Parties Interesting article in the Guardian...https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/j ul/05/nico-in-manchester-she-loved-the-a rchitecture-and-the-heroin Some of the comments are great too. There is one by a guy who as a cub radio reporter asked her the question "what advice would you give young people ?" And her reply was "Don't take the Velvet Underground so seriously" |

The Homin Lviv Municipal Choir - Vichnaya Pamyat After several evenings of anguish, the Lviv Municipal Male Voice Choir deliver the knock-out punch to round off Chernobyl with this section of the Russian Orthodox memorial service. A bit of hunting around seems to find no other recordings from the guys, which is a shame, since they could be burning up the charts with the interest provoked by their version here. I hope some enterprising Ukrainian studio gets them miked up smartish. And Jared Harris, respect, sir. The role he’s been waiting for. |

David, have you ever heard the version of "Foot of Pride" Lou Reed did at Dylan's 40th anniversary concert? Blistering. I love Dylan's version but Lou took it up a notch. |

The Mekons - Chivalry. I don't know if they were influenced by The Go-Betweens on this song, or if The Go-Betweens heard it and were influenced by them, but someone is influencing somebody here. |
