It’s a good album, if not a great one.

I suspect this will bring down the value of previous CD versions significantly. The 1984 version wouldn’t have sold many as that was early in the life of CDs but has been sought-after. I have the Fontana version from 1989 which is/was quite valuable.

Burgers, I also own a copy of the 1989 Fontana release but I will be picking up this one for the additional material. The Bathers apparently played live in Aberdour tonight. It is rumoured that there is a new album ready for release but I will only believe it when I see it.

Jeez I would like to see the Bathers. And a new album will be welcome as well. If it takes a decade to appear that will only fit into the quixotic romance of the band. I have the Fontana version of Trapped and Unwrapped. I must have bought it before it became scarce. I expect that I also will "need" to get the new Cherry Red release. I'm hoping the remaster will sound better. I've never been as keen for Friends Again as I am for the Bathers but the fine things are, well, fine.

Oh, and speaking of valuable CD issues, I did a quick "Little Nemo Vol. 1" search on ebay and there was something there! This out of print Infrastition anthology is only 193 Euro. The seller--who I've bought other things from--announces that his or her offerings are up to 70% off the original price. Such a deal.

Randy,

A video ( not great quality ) of The Bathers at the Woodside Hotel, Aberdour, on Saturday night. The band consisted of Chris, Paul, Paul's son John and Hazel.

Randy,

Where music is concerned ( vinyl and cd ) it does appear to be much more of a Seller's Market these days. I have a lot of original vinyl dating back to the 1960s including the first two recordings by Kaleidoscope ( the U.K. band not the U.S.A. band ) on the Fontana label ( 1967 / 1969 ) and the subsequent re-issues on the 5 Hours Back label
( 1987.) Have a look at what they are advertised for / sell for on Discogs. I have not looked at my copies for years and I don't know if I have the Mono, Stereo or Gatefold Sleeve versions

Crazy pricing.

I am reminded of the old saying that you wait ages for a bus and then two come along at once.

It seems that Firestation Records will be releasing an album called 'In The Beginning' by Friends Again in December, 2019. No details of the tracklist at the moment but hopefully it will contain tracks that do not feature on the Cherry Red release.

On National Album Day, last Saturday, on the Radcliffe & Maconie BBC 6 Music show they talked a bit about their favourite albums.

Stuart Maconie mentioned Trapped and Unwrapped as one of his favourites which surprised me. Perhaps he had been listening to the reissue recently.

I worked with a woman a few years ago who was a fan of James Grant and who had never heard Friends Again. I lent her Trapped and Unwrapped and she gave me the impression that she hated it.

Finally, I always assumed that the title was a play on the slogan for Terry’s chocolate orange but I’ve never read anything to confirm that or even any similar speculation.

'In The Beginning' by Friends Again is now up for pre-order at Firestation Records. Only nine tracks ( vinyl and cd ) but it does look like Firestation have managed to source at least some material that will not appear on the forthcoming Cherry Red Records release.

Rare footage of the first ever Friends Again gig at The Mayfair, Glasgow, in January, 1982.

Wow Hugh, that's really impressive that they had such an accomplished song as "State of Art" by their first live performance.

Randy, Friends Again released three singles ( Sunkissed, Honey At The Core; State Of Art ) on Moonbot Records in 1983 before signing to Phonogram who released their self-titled ep and debut album. I may be wrong but I am thinking it is these early recordings that will appear on the Firestation Records release.

I took delivery of my copy of 'In The Beginning' by Friends Again last Thursday and I can confirm that the nine tracks were recorded prior to the band signing to Phonogram. Tracks 1-6 were recorded at the Hellfire Club, Glasgow, in 1981, track 7 was recorded at the Mayfair Ballroom, Glasgow, in 1981 and tracks 8-9 were recorded at Palladium Studios, Edinburgh, in 1982. The lineup for tracks 1-7 was Chris Thomson - Vocals and Guitar; Paul McGeechan - Fender Rhodes and Synthesiser; Neil Cunningham - Bass; Andrew McGurk - Guitar and Backing Vocals; Colin McGowan - Drums. On tracks 8-9, James Grant and Stuart Kerr replaced Andrew McGurk and Colin McGowan respectively.

My copy of Trapped And Unwrapped arrived today. Thirty two tracks in total. A really good value package.

Another rare video of the band.

I have to comment on all these British guys' hair. So many of them--definitely Chris Thompson--had such great luxuriant quiffs. I NEVER had that sort of hair. It was straight and characterless and then, of course, it proceeded to fall out in my 30s but good riddance because it was crappy hair! And here's Chris Thompson 33 years after Hugh's video STILL with great hair even if it might have receded ever so imperceptibly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrtRaIuL Fhc

My dad--telltale last name Adams--had gorgeous wavy hair like Chris' and it pretty much survived all the way to the end of his 84 year lifespan. But I had to get my mom's family's hair. So did my two brothers. Crap straight hair that then went for the shower drain. Mom's father was 100% French and 100% bald. Sheesh.

Sorry, just had to get that out.
