Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Hollywood
Haunting - I am not sure what other word to use.
My wife & I were lucky see Nick Cave this last Monday.
3 hours of music and conversations about everything under the sun.
My good friend had no albums to be signed in the parking lot after the event, so he gave him a big hug instead.

Barry Adamson - Up In The Air. Possibly his least funk/soul influenced song, it’s pretty much indie rock, even verging on power pop, but it’s still awesome.

Craig Armstrong - Let's Go Out Tonight

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWj1AboQ ZU0

Watched Xavier Dolan's astounding "Laurence Anyways" and the song features in his film.

Think that I prefer the original, but interesting to hear.

Our pal the pianist Yonathan Avishai has a new release out on ECM with the trumpeter Avishai Cohen.

There is a lovely cover of Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke" on the record, with a charming animation to go with it (quite different to the usual "ECM aesthetic” !)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgfixP0M 9-8

I think that I once heard that the label owner, Manfred Eicher, has been present at some 95% of the sessions that have come out on his label...

Iggy Pop – Loves missing

After a series of Italian rap brats on the car radio, all making use of that vocal hum device, the worst thing to happen to the human voice since the vocoder, this sounded magnificent, with dark, grungy guitar introducing the Pop growl, for which the word sepulchral is far too dainty.

Dominique A – Burano

A French ballad about an Italian island from the fine Auguri album – a thing of featherlight, delicious beauty.

Susan Christie - Rainy Day

Some opulently-voiced cool psychedelic folk from her 1970 one-off.

Thanks for the Pete Astor heads up, by the way, Andreas, helped me see he also had a new album out last year on the same label! Always happy to hear Pete.

Stuart, yes his last album is wonderful as well and I saw him play in best form in a very, very tiny place last year in Augsburg.
The place where it happened is really a little cafe with vegetable business :-)
Played for let's say 50 people and after the concert talked to erverybody!
The concert was organized by Ronny Pinkau of Kleine Untergrund Schallplatten.

Sacha Toorop – Soin de soi

One of my favourite tracks from his Au Clair De La Terre album, a little static guitar riff with an occasional harmonica explosion, but what makes it is the fragile melody carried by his light, slightly broken voice. No link to be found online so far. Elsewhere, his work is defined as “rich ripples of music distilled by jazz with clear bursts of unabashed pop” which gets it about right.

Watoo Watoo--Whirlpool of Pride. Cover of a song by Mumbly which itself was written as an homage to Felt. This is found on Watoo Watoo's album "Modern Express."

Spoon - The Underdog. So many bands, across a broad spectrum of genres, have a song somewhere that could be described as Beatlesque; this is Spoon’s.

Stan Ridgway - The Big Heat. From 1986 and with every bit of that era’s production tricks accounted for, but it’s still a better left field pop/rock song than most others released in the mid-80s. On vinyl, as it was intended to be heard.

Matching Mole - O Caroline

Caroline has had a pretty good run for her money, what with the Beach Boys, Lou Reed, Neil Diamond, Status Quo... but this is perhaps the most beautiful one of all.

Stuart, A lovely song and a wonderful album. I had tickets to see Plainsong perform in Glasgow back in 1972 but Matthews split from the band the night before the gig. The show went ahead without him but I did not go in once I learned he would not be on stage.

The title track from the album featuring Iain and Sandy Denny on vocals.

I'm very late to arrive to the wayward genius that was David Berman, but "Purple Mountains" is simply a wonderful and very sad recording.

How could you not love a record that features the following lyrics in its opening song ?

"I met failure in Australia
I fell ill in Illinois
I nearly lost my genitalia
To an anthill in Des Moines"

Today I'll pick "All My Happiness is Gone"
