Out here in California, Kenny Lynch's original claim to fame for me was his role as co-writer with the Hollies' lead guitarist Tony Hicks of a string a mostly excellent songs around the time of their "Distant Light" album. Then I found his name on the songwriting credits for a handful of early Steve Marriot-era Small Faces records. Then I came across his British soul classic "Movin' Away" on an anthology. I've linked it here before but here it is again:

Living in California I won't have known anything about his acting and comedy career. It's impressive that he showed up on "Till Death Us Do Part" the 60s U.K. show famous to us in the States for being the prototype for Norman Lear's classic 70s show "All in the Family."

Somebody posted this great 1965 video from Lynch's first bloom of success on the Guardian:

It sounds like he was a bit of a wide boy in the early 50s. He seemed to be able to thrive at whatever he attempted.

Fans of Kenny Lynch (I wasn’t one on account of his Tarbuck connections) may be interested to know that he features in the UK releases for Record Store Day. Doesn’t seem to feature in the USA.

Not many releases that interest me but more announcements to follow.
