This is terrible, indeed. Many years back, when Steve Earle was doing a teaching residency at the Old Town School of Folk Music, a friend of mine who teaches at the school brought this tall, intense kid to play the open mic night I ran at my local bar. He got up and just blew everyone away. I immediately offered him a gig and he happily accepted. That’s when Wendy, the bar owner, walked over, looked him up and down and asked how old he was. He said, “18.” Wendy and I both groaned and she told him he couldn’t be in the bar without a parent or guardian. He said, “my dad wouldn’t go to a bar.” He walked away disappointed and my friend, who brought him, whispered in my ear that his dad was Steve Earle. RIP. |

From stuff in NZ today - The late Justin Townes Earle was someone who was wild, original of thought and purposefully thoughtful, writes Vicki Anderson. https://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/mu sic/122664906/remembering-justin-townes- earle-we-were-a-12ft-beast-and-we-were-h owling?cid=app-iPhone |
