That's on my pile of still-sealed "to listen to" CDs tottering on my desk across the room, David! Hope to hear it soon. How's the prog survey going? After browsing Rolling Stone's 50 Great Prog Albums list, I just took delivery of Harmonium's Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison and Renaissance's Ashes are burning. We shall see. Should I pay any attention to a list that includes nothing by the wonderful Focus though? Hmph. |

Just listened to Hamburger Concerto today Stuart! Reorganising my vinyl collection and found 2 copies, ha. Side 2 is a prog masterpiece perhaps. Agree, any list without this album on it cant be serious IMHO |

Ah, nice words about Focus on an online post! Thanks for making my day, Mr Gagen! Hamburger Concerto is indeed a great listen. Mother Focus, not so much, the life had gone out of them by then. The collection of posthumous oddments Ship of memories, on the other hand, is a stonker. |

Just found in thrift shop for $4 today actually the hard to find 1978 Tys Van Leer album "Nice To Have Met You". Tys goes to the US and records some great Jazz fusion with a whose who of studio jazz musicians (Eric Gale, Steve Khan, Anthony Jackson, and others). Does a reworked Hocus Pocus. never heard of this album til today. Great sounding jazz album, lots of flute of course, but the rhytmn section and support players here are outstanding. |

That's an interesting find! I have just about everything the guys ever did as solo artists - far too much really - but I'm not sure about that one. Will check when I'm back home. |

And In My Head The Sea - Compilation A Russian band with no physical releases to date as far as I know. The translation of their name is 'And In My Head The Sea' but I am not sure how accurate that is. I have compiled a chronological compilation of their digital download releases. The first three tracks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orPOPri4 Y6s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTAZUfra HMI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1J9_eq7 PxQ |

If anyone's interested, there's a new podcast featuring Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen shooting the shit about race, America, etc. The thing that strikes me is that they kind of interview each other. There's a tendency among the very famous and powerful to just hold forth but these guys come off as genuinely interested in each others opinions. There are two episode up. I think they said there are going to be eight. https://open.spotify.com/show/42xagXCUDs FO6a0lcHoTlv |

Martin Sexton - The American. I got it for $2 in a charity shop after googling it. I’d never heard of him. It’s great. What a voice. It came out in 1998. I suspect he’d be a bit too rock/pop mainstream for most people here, however. |

Gaslight Radio - Hitch On The Leaves. Got 4 of Gaslight Radio's albums, this one is maybe my favourite, or maybe Z-Nation. |

David I love Gaslight Radio! I was originally tipped off to them by Matthew Lobb of the Bell Divers. I was pestering him to give me recommendations for local Aussie bands. His attitude was bit like mine about American bands but he named Pollen and Gaslight Radio. I got Pollen's album and "Hitch on the Leaves" by Gaslight Radio. Pollen I was "meh" about but I scooped up whatever I could find for Gaslight Radio. In fact I picked up the comp "Magic Castle Broke Songs" at Rocking Horse Records when I was in town all those years ago for Robert's Four Ages shows, when I met you. It mops up a bunch of their early EPs and singles. In the early days I thought the singer--Rory Cooke?--was the weak point but I soon got over that. He's just distinctive. I have: Magic Castle Broke Songs Hitch on the Leaves Good Heavens Mean Times Chapter 6: The Hard Luck Knights Z-Nation Am I missing anything? I have a pretty longstanding weakness for bands who repurpose classic folk song structure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiL_UVoS 6r8 |

Randy, I have heard most of these (except Magic Castle). Theres a great EP called "Torcin' Towns, Hankerin Homes" from 1996. Not sure of chronology, but maybe debut. Kinda lowfi production you wd prob like. |

Maybe Magic Castle Broke Songs has the Torchin Towns material on it if its a compilation. I wasnt aware of it actually. That surely was a great few days back then, meeting up for Robert's Four Ages. |

David, "Magic Castle Broke Songs" was a nice bit of dumb luck for me. I remember I picked it up when I was in the store waiting to meet up with Christina Gallagher. Here is the song list: Tarmac & Line Confusion is a Blast Chimney Red Negative Gearing - An Early History Sunstroke Darlin' Your Parents Are Weird The Singer's a Liar Red Shield Marching Vitrolia, I Know My Olana Hole in the Union Is By Bus Southport Morning Post Lowerizen Angeline, Angeline Sleeveful of Slight Painting My Tongue Housing Commission Green Stranger Glue & Dumped in Scrub The Workers Theatre's a Lie That 2007 trip was my first solo international journey. Robert's shows were pure magic, the platonic ideal of a cult artist's stage presentation. They were so significant in his life and ours. I wish he'd release them on DVD. Meeting you and other people who had only been names on the board was wonderful. I enjoyed hoofing it around inner Brisbane for the week or so that I was there. Good food was easy to find. New Farm & Fortitude Valley seemed like a cross between the old classic West Hollywood and Laurel Canyon here in LA. And I loved the City Cat! |

Just checked, the 1st 5 songs on your list are the debut EP "Torchin' Towns, Hankerin' Homes". I agree it wd be great if Robert wd release those shows either on CD or DVD. I enjoyed the time spent in the Valley that week as well, living as I do out in Ipswich, about 30km west of the Brisbane CBD. |
