The Belligerents - Science Fiction. A 2017 orange vinyl indie pop/krautrock/disco/prog rock album on Sony by a Brisbane band who thank Matthew Harris in the credits. It’s great stuff. I wish it had come with a download code.

OK, I mixed up Matthew Harris with Matthew Lobb. Sorry to both Matthews. (I don't actually know who Matthew Harris is, but I assume he works in the music industry.)

I was just trying to interest Randy in The Belligerents, under what I now realise was an unintentional false premise.

That's very funny Pádraig. Though with "disco/prog rock on Sony" in the description you're swimming uphill.

One of my recent acquisitions from the other Antipode (Argentina) has been fascinating me for the past week or so. Viva Elastico's first album (2009) sounds like a lost artifact from the early 1980s. I can't recommend their later albums but this first one seems like early Cure from an alternative universe.

A new Ed Kuepper album! Sort of. It's Asteroid Ekosystem by Alister Spence Trio with Ed Kuepper. It's space jazz, more akin to Sun Ra than Laughing Clowns. Try before you buy here

Always a sucker for a big brass break, that Luisa M track is a goodie, Randy. Grammatically unsound sentence, but you get the idea. If the rest of the album is as strong, I'll have to check it out.

Stuart, assuming the link in the post above works the same for you it's actually to the entire album. There is a bandcamp page also: https://luisamandouumbeijo.bandcamp.com/ music

As is so often the case, this is a Hugh Nimmo discovery.

TROU, What fantastic news that Departure Lounge are back! That song sounds like what would happen if REM and Departure Lounge had a baby, which, with Peter Buck playing on it, I guess is what happened. I can't wait for the full album!

Damon Albarn - Strange news from another star

An unofficial “collection” of acoustic remodellings – I think – that someone has cobbled together from various provenances, showing off the DA tonsils and ballad writing to great effect, and making an album I would happily buy in a jiffy.

Good, innit, Pádraig? There are download options on other sites, too.

I’ve also been listening to:

Damon Albarn - Boiler Room: Streaming from Isolation

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlS6GCZR 1Q0

where the lad is playing from his new magnum opus, "The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows". Well, enormous brownie points for using a John Clare quote as a title, even though the work apparently is a homage to the landscape of Iceland. On a first listen, it seems to be a matter of: electronic fuzz, Damon sings something rather beautiful for a bit, more electronic fuzz, Damon sings plaintively again, further sequence of fuzz, further lovely Albarn vocalizing, etc. I’d rather have had something more lyrically orchestral in the intervals, to be honest, there doesn’t seem much to get a hook on there, but it’s still a work in progress, I hope.

Adult Jazz - Gist Is https://adultjazz.bandcamp.com/album/gis t-is
This reminds me of the 80s US band Hugo Largo, but Adult Jazz are from Leeds. This album is fantastic, though probably not one I’ll play very often. The singer’s voice reminds me of someone else, but I can’t quite recall who.

Cathal Coughlan - Song Of Co-Aklan. Out today. If you’ve ever liked his work with Microdisney, Fatima Mansions or solo, I urge you to check it out on a streaming service or Bandcamp. You won’t be disappointed. Promise. https://cathalc.bandcamp.com/album/song- of-co-aklan (the album isn’t up on Bandcamp yet, but hopefully will be by the time the rest of the world wakes up).

Bridget Storm - Here's What's Left. Something made me think of this 2002 album then by chance I came across it while looking for something else. Time has not tarnished its dark beauty. It’s on Bandcamp https://bridgetstorm.bandcamp.com/album/ heres-whats-left The Irish Times review on the page is by me, by the way.

Jetstream Pony -- s/t

This album continues to score with me. I love its blend of krautrock, cool British 60s atmosphere and Troggs beat.

Those Nervous Animals - The Mission Sessions. The debut album from a west of Ireland band a mere 40 years in the making. The singer’s voice is much better now in his 60s than it was when he was in his 20s. That’s what 40 years of a day job will do for you. I’m immediately playing it again, it’s that good. https://thosenervousanimals.bandcamp.com /album/the-mission-sessions
