Rim And Kasa - Too Tough EP. A 1982 Highlife/Disco/Soul/Funk 12" that goes for crazy money now. No, I don't have the original 12". An expanded version of it is here for much cheaper https://bbemusic.bandcamp.com/album/too- tough-i-m-not-going-to-let-you-go

Ger Eaton - "The Time it Takes to Fall"

An Irish singer, looking like a cross between an elderly worse for wear Kevin Ayres and an everyday Iggy Pop, but sounding like… well, the radio this morning segued him very wisely straight into Scott Walker, who might just, on the basis of no evidence whatsoever apart from this and Hamish Hawk, be taking over from Lou as pop music’s presiding genius.

Thank you for that link, Stuart. I didn’t know about this.

Hugh, this is the singer from The Carnival Brothers who I bigged up here before and you checked out and liked.

Well! That Ger Eaton hits the spot for me. I should probably criticize it for being too self-consciously derivative but somehow I'm not feeling that at the moment. Anyone who bows to vintage Scott Walker gets a pass in my book.

Interesting about The Carnival Brothers, Pádraig. They seem to have fallen between the cracks for Discogs. Prior to Carnival Brothers, he was also apparently involved in a band called The Aftermath in the first decade of this century. Their one album is not as entertaining, unfortunately sounding too stereotypically 1990s for my taste. No Scott Walker pretensions in the two songs I tried. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tHLO-bk zUg&list=OLAK5uy_kJv8uhesWnxPWeaTsLzsg8g XQGfzXtulg

I see the new Ger Eaton release is a 3 song digital EP, found on Bandcamp https://gereatondimplediscs.bandcamp.com. All three songs are aggressively anachronistic. I'll keep an eye out for a full album hopefully in physical release. It might not be something to base an entire career upon but a single album? Absolutely.

Randy, I think The Carnival Brothers may have been almost entirely a downloads project, with very few physical releases. So maybe that's why they don't feature on Discogs. Hugh will probably know the answer to this.

Padraig, I downloaded The Carnival Brothers songs from Bandcamp as I could not find mention of any physical releases online. The band are also listed on Qobuz where their record label is given as Fret Sounds. I have been unable to find any other mention of the label online so I am guessing they self released their songs. They had a website at one time ( www.thecarnivalbrothers.com ) but clicking on it now brings up an error message ( Error Occurred: 403 - Forbidden.)

Apologies for the slow response to your posts but I was on a short break to Portpatrick. The hotel I was staying in has no mobile phone signal, wi-fi is flaky to say the least and the TV transmission is from Northern Ireland!!!

Released back in 2001. It only took me 20 years to come across the band. I never cease to be amazed at the number of great albums / bands that I never picked up on at the time.

5 Hand Reel -- For A' That

My copy of the 2CD reissue that combines the first three albums arrived. Inevitably with a collection this long, some of the music takes me too deep into the weeds of Celtic folk but there are lot of gems. Not only the ballads favored by Stuart--and, yes, Stuart I have a weakness for those too--but there are the rousing numbers that defy the listener to stay seated:

I just want to wish everybody all the best for 2022! I'm hoping I might actually get to see some more live music in the new year.

Lloyd Cole in February is the first gig I'm due to see. It was originally scheduled for 2020 before being put back to 2021 and then 2022; the same is true for Belle and Sebastian.

Fingers crossed...

Nice that 5 HR arrived on Hogmanay, Randy! Hope it had you jigging around the room. I booked a gig in Geneva in a strange moment of wild optimism a few months back, but I'll probably cancel it tomorrow, along with Scotland in May. Don't think I'll be travelling anywhere soon, except perhaps some isolated farmhouse up in the hills.
