1 Wolf Alice - Blue Weekend. I love it when indie bands suddenly get enough money and time to turn their big ideas into an amazing rock album. 2 Jah Wobble - Metal Box - Rebuilt In Dub. Just astonishing, 3 Nick Cave & Warren Ellis - Carnage. Everthing I'd expected, and so much more. 4 The Weather Station – Ignorance. I was blown away by this. They were previously a name I'd heard but whose music I'd not heard. Better late than never. 5 Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders & London Symphony Orchestra - Promises. Just. So. Beautiful. 6 Paul Weller - Fat Pop. He's still got in, in spades. His best in a while. 7 Cathal Coughlan - Song Of Co-Aklan. CC's still got it too, and has another album coming soon. 8 Paul Kelly - Paul Kelly's Christmas Train. Maybe the best Christmas album ever. Up there anyway. 9 The Goon Sax - Mirror II. They get better and better. More polished than their first two, but only marginally. 10 Crowded House - Dreamers Are Waiting. A very moving album that I liked a whole lot more than I'd expected to. 11 Ian M Bailey - Songs To Dream Along To. A one-man Teenage Fanclub, and better than the actual Teenage Fanclub album this year. 12 The Hard-Ons - I'm Sorry Sir, That Riff's Been Taken. Probably their best album. Getting Tim Rogers in on vocals was a brilliant idea. 13 Bryce Dessner, Australian String Quartet, Sydney Dance Company – Impermanence/Disintegration. A force of nature about a force of nature - Australian bushfires. 14 The Scientists - Negativity. How many other bands could make a record this good 40-something years into their career? 15 Holy Holy - Hello My Beautiful World. They deserve to be a lot better known, and acclaimed, than they are. 16 Marianne Faithfull & Warren Ellis - She Walks In Beauty. Marianne recites poetry, Warren plays the music, and it's great. 17 CousteauX – Stray Gods. The X is silent, they had to add it due to complaints from the family of a more famous Cousteau. They are an Irish guy who lives in Australia and an Australian who lives in England. And they make music like Scott Walker did in the 70s. 18 Teenage Fanclub - Endless Arcade. A strong album, but they are definitely missing Gerard Love. 19 You Am I - The Lives Of Others. Their best album in a while, but Tim Rogers made a better record this year with The Hard-Ons. 20 Chime School - Chime School. In which one San Franciscan channels The Byrds via mid-80s UK indie. Ten of the albums are Australian or part Australian. That makes it a very good year for local (to me) music. | ||

Maybe its the times but i could barely name 15 albums this year - ive probably become a Spotify junkie and its only songs. Best music of year is Sharon van etten and Angel olsen - like i used to. Total Pop Banger. Not on an album tho.. i really liked Hudson Hawk, Weather station, elbow , martha wainwright but Like i used to with its Abba pastiche video is my musical higglight. | ||
