Song of last night, actually.

Fontaines D.C. -- How Cold Love Is

I'm still waiting for my copy of Grian Chatten's new solo album.

R.E.M. - Oh My Heart. Someone near and dear to me just pointed out how much it sounds like The Go-Betweens, and they're right.

Fontaines D.C. – "Cello Song"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezDU--Ne T4c

This cover of the Nick Drake seems to have divided the die-hard Drake fans, but I think it's a bold attempt at finding something new in a song. Works 100% for me.

Blur - St Charles Square. Astonishingly, it sounds very like Robert Forster. Now, that's something I never expected to hear. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Iidpm1Y LRM

Jane Birkin – Jane B/Je m’appelle Jane

Ah, the wonderful Jane, here taking la pipi out of herself with two self-referential songs, helped out by Mickey 3D on the second.

Not many pop songs surived the choral treatment. But Elizabeth Stokes from The Beths is such a good tunesmith and clever lyricist that this take on 'Expert in a Dying Field' by a Canadian-based choir somehow works brilliantly.

Neil Young – I’m the ocean

Neil is a one-man epic, singing some of his lesser known songs, wandering in like a hobo off the street, remembering he needs a guitar, yanking it on and straight into it. Song from the Pearl Jam album he did, but sounding a lot better here. “People my age/They don't do the things I do…”

Paul Armfield - Why Should It Be That A Man Gets Bored?

A truly lovely English-language version of "Pourquoi faut-il que les hommes s'ennuient?" by Jacques Brel.

It's on the album of Brel cover versions Next, with contributions from Dusty Springfield, Bowie and Marc Almond.

Chris Thile & Brad Mehldau – Tabhair dom do Lámh

An upliftingly lovely mandolin and piano version of this tune “by late 16th/early 17th century Irish harpist and composer Ruaidri Dáll Ó Catháin”.

Neil Young – Without Rings

Another NY song new to me. One thing seems clear, his lesser known work seems to benefit from being taken out of the context of whichever of his many albums it may appear on and played live, raw, just guitar and harp and voice. Speaking of which, he drops down a tone or two here with great effect. Spooky moment when he seems to be staring out head-bowed like a crazy guy but it’s just the light reflecting off his eyebrows!
