The Long Ryders – Looking for Lewis and Clark.

I know it's a bit of a cliché but it's a great three and a half minutes of pop and sideburns straight out of the sixties!

Maustetytöt - Syntynyt suruun ja puettu pettymyksin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ulrss-bw RVk

A cheery, uplifting little ditty (English title = "Born in Sorrow and Clothed in Disappointment" !!!) as featured in Aki Kaurismäki's brilliant film "Fallen Leaves".

The The - Angels Of Deception. Just popped up on a robojock Amazon playlist. I had to Shazam it to see what it was. What a song. Those AI funkers are getting very good at picking songs I love.

Vasilis Papakonstantinou – Sebastian

He was such a cocky young sod, he seemed to get everyone’s hackles up in the rock media – perhaps as a journalist himself once – but for a while had the songs to back it up; then as the ego remained apparently unshaken the quality of the writing tailed off. Family life seemed to have mellowed him out when I checked in on his later career, but I couldn’t find any more great songs; I hope there were some. Anyway, Sebastian was a show-stopper, and here’s a rousing version by one of the few Greek artists I’m familiar with. Harley would surely have enjoyed its huge European melodramatic gusto.

Arctic Monkeys – Cornerstone

I don’t know a lot of AM stuff but this is one of the best songs I’ve heard recently, where it’s the irresistible upward spiral of the verse that carries the melodic punch rather than the chorus and there’s plenty of wit in the lyric. I seem to hear a lot of beautifully produced, well sung pop with intelligent words these days and that’s fine, but this is a tune that grabs you from the start.
