Lowlife - San Antorium. 1991 album that’s new to me as of today. And it’s great. I must have read a review of it at the time in Melody Maker, given ex-Cocteau Twin Will Heggie is one of the members. But if I did, I’d long forgotten it. They almost certainly got lost in a year dominated by Nirvana, R.E.M., Primal Scream, U2, My Bloody Valentine, Pearl Jam etc.

Another Sunny Day - London Weekend

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCy4F9-w KbE

Sarah Records collected together most, if not all, of the songs recorded by the band between 1988 and 1992 and released them on the above compilation album in 1992. Cherry Red Records re-issued the compilation in 2009.

Jack White’s No Name, which is fantastic, and The Byrds’ Columbia Singles 65-67, which is my favourite Byrds compilation. Well, right now it is anyway.

Fanning Dempsey National Park - Fanning Dempsey National Park. Debut collaboration album by Bernard Fanning and Paul Dempsey. It’s one of the finest rock/pop albums I’ve heard in years. I feared it might be awful, but it’s great.

Roberta Flack, Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye
Bob Dylan, She Belongs To Me
The Velvet Underground, I’m waiting for the man
Nico, These Days
The Breeders, Cannonball

This was a mightily stimulating radio sequence played originally on Sunday afternoon, Flack coasting with memorable serenity through a shifting orchestral version of the Cohen classic, then a short bit of chat from John Cale suggesting that the following Dylan song was about Nico; after Bob, crunching into the Velvets, then Nico herself manoeuvring with awkward Teutonic grace through what’s surely one of the greatest songs ever written by a 16 year old, and finally winding up with the fine dark surge of the apparently de Sade inspired Kim Deal track. I sat down and took a breath and hoped that somewhere some kid with a school jotter of scrawled rhymes was listening to it too and that afterwards they grabbed their phone and called that other kid they knew by sight at school who plays the guitar a bit and said something like, Hey, I’ve got some words here, want to come round?

Thanks for that, Pádraig. I hope that comes out on CD. On first hearing, IMO it's a better album than their last one.

Popolice - LP https://popolice.bandcamp.com/album/lp
As has often happened in recent years, the bands that sound most like they come from Dunedin in the 1980s are actually from Melbourne 40 years later.

Padraig, Marc Regueiro-McKelvie ( Popolice ) is also a member of Screenprints. Well worth checking out if you are not already familiar with them.

Padraig, Yes, I purchased a digital download from Bandcamp a few days after it was released. I wish I had a copy of the vinyl as it sells for silly money on Discogs but they were one of only a few Flying Nun bands that slipped under my radar back in the 1980s.

Currently listening to :-

Jim Nothing - Grey Eyes Grey Lynn

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8g1ozlN IBM

or the band performing live.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zf1T0WK5 -jc

Both track from his / their second album ( Grey Eyes Grey Lynn.)

I've enjoyed a whole day to the Den Bosch vinyl and cd's mega fair in Holland. Biggest in the world. 500 dealers and thousands of visitors in an impressive hall. Between a myriad of Dark Side of the Moon and Beatles, I've finaly found a vinyl copy of Tallulah, Danger in the Past and Watershed. Couldn't let them alone. Not easy to find among these millions of records. The prices are also high for the go-bee's stuff. There was a Bright Yellow Bright Orange copy of over 200 Euro... I'll wait for the boxset.

Kikujiro - Joe Hisaishi

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rI6KKXJ1 TUg&list=OLAK5uy_nB4K4pmCEXZwyoc5_Y2gBXv PKbkfyNm9I

One of my favourite original movie soundtracks of all time and a lovely film to boot.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0199683/?re f_=fn_al_tt_1

Hisaishi composed the original soundtrack music to most of the Studio Ghibli animated movies.

Sorrow - Sleep Now Forever

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sbqyuxma 2As

Interesting sort of drone-hymn-folk from 1999 by ex-Strawberry Switchblade Rose Mcdowall, rereleased this year as "a deluxe 2LP version on Black Vinyl with an exclusive etching on SIDE 4", so not much use to me then.
