Waxahatchee - Right Back To It. Paste magazine reckon her latest album is the 4th best of the 2020s. It’s not quite that good but it’s my second favourite of 2024 so far. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YL3iHhER WJw |

Belle and Sebastian - Dog on Wheels https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoD2HRN4 G6k I love a bit of Belle and Sebastian and went to see Stuart Murdoch at the Bristol Beacon (formerly the Colston Hall) on Saturday, in its small Lantern venue. Some other act called the Pretenders were in the main hall. Stuart was there to promote his first novel, a lightly fictionalised account of hs struggle with ME (not me, but the illness!). And he played this in a three-song set. He's a fan of the Go-Betweens too. This is from the song Shoot the Sexual Athlete: 'Cause I'm a fan of The Go-Betweens A fan of Robert, and I always have been But I like Grant, now that I've met him Because he's charming |

With reference to the Omertà track, Pádraig, I see that in an interview Florence Giroud intriguingly mentions a Sophie Marceau album, ‘Certitude’, “one of our culture’s true hidden gems”. That sounds worth tracking down. I’ve heard a little of it online and so far the hiddenness is more understandable than the gemness, but time will tell. |

Amyl and the Sniffers – Big Dreams Sounding a bit like revved-up Courtney Barnett, strikingly so at the end, had she decided to give up writing witty & literate lyrics just for a moment. But the oomphed-up vocal, Morricone style, on the Heys! and the Oohs! is pretty irresistible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipZSqcFA 0Z0 |

Bathers - Feathers, Books & Lace https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-I_uH5id j1Y&list=OLAK5uy_lVwdvfLv4A4dDuZ_rbS-vr8 Z0vr3XNsr0 Surely Chris Thomson is the most romantic Scotsman alive. And then a counterbalance from possibly one of the most cynical persons in the Bristol music scene: The Reverend Jonny Kinkaid - Waiting for the End of the World https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKGfLGlH bIo |

Clio – Là je suis saoule Oh, a French lass again… although Clio has already produced some very nice pop stuff, this is really lovely, and a great little video up on the roofs of what might be Paris, despite obvious lack. I didn’t know that “bisontine” indicated that you were from Besançon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsV-8xc5 870 |

Dory Previn - Beware of Young Girls I only discovered this recently, and it's as dark as it gets. And equally, at the same time, it's a thing of loveliness. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmi7eeCN Vvo |

And two for the price of one... Vashti Bunyan - Where I like to Stand. Ah... wistful thoughts... and as with Dory Previn, I only discovered her music quite recently. And it's great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vUPFvht jdU |

Avishai Cohen - The Seventh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kc-eZRnI qaQ The last track on his fabulous new record "Ashes to Gold". Composed by his teenage daughter apparently. Piano by my pal Yonathan. 3 minutes of beauty in this troubled world. |

The Global Twins - Sympathy For The Devil. Hopefully this makes it onto the coming box set. The Global Twins is, of course, Grant and Robert under a pseudonym. |
