The Triffids - Too Hot To Move, Too Hot To Think. I can’t even remember the last time I heard this classic.

Roy Harper - Mr Station Master

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hG7_V7_D 0wc

One of the many songs that take me back to my university years, 1981-1985.

I had this on vinyl, I have it on CD, I love it.

That TH song is great pop, Simon, a big favourite of mine.

Meanwhile, my Uncut back-issue cherry-picking mission turned up

Rhett Miller - A Lifetime of Riding By Night

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUfAw8Ei FoM

A moody, well-crafted ballad with lyrics that give Morrissey a run for his misery.

Elvis – Kentucky Rain

I must have heard this before at some point along the way, but I honestly don’t remember. What a great song, beautifully arranged, piano, bass, strings and brass all working around and under that great voice. Good solid lyric and lots of drama. I like Wikipedia’s rather drily factual synopsis: “The song's lyrics describe a man searching for a woman he loves who fled his side for an unknown reason and the protagonist’s search through rural Kentucky during a persistent rain storm.” Nick Cave’s ideal choice for his funeral, apparently.

Twenty-Mile Zone - Dory Previn

I think there may be numerous subtexts at play here. Regardless, it's fantastic!

One of the many Eno collaborations that has passed me by! But I see it's their second album together, Highlife, that seems to get all the praise; time to check them out, anyway!

Stuart, that track was only on the deluxe edition of the first album, hidden away as track four of four on the second CD. Lesser talents could have built a career out of that one song.

Train Dreams - Nick Cave & Bryce Dessner

A new song from the wonderful film and even better novella by Denis Johnson, the book is one of the most beautiful things ever written. I keep running into people who are fans of it.
