All three series of Mr Mercedes. I thought the first series was great. The second went too much into the supernatural for my liking, then the third was the right mix of crime, horror and supernatural. One thing though, I hate the way it is always so dark in the indoor shots. I know it's done to create an atmosphere suggesting menace, but it it just looks ridiculous proportions when you're supposed to believe that people work in the dark and a bookshop is so dark it would be impossible to see any of the titles. |

The fourth and final season of The Man in the High Castle, years after I watched the first three. |

The Boys From Brazil. I finished the book yesterday and watched the film, which is on YouTube, today. The book is much better than the film, but it was nice to see a cousin of my mother, who has a part in the film. |

This past week I watched the five episodes of Adam Curtis' 2025 expressionistic video documentary Shifty. While the focus is the genesis of modern Britain I find it just as relevant for the U.S. which even as a child I considered to be following in the U.K.'s footsteps. One of the most interesting and relevant points Curtis gradually hammers home is that governments no longer have real power. Power is now in the hands of the small number of folks with stupendous amounts of money who control all avenues of the media and can force any government into submission by abruptly moving their investments. Meanwhile the little people in the voting booths are convinced their problem is immigrants. |

The European Six Nations rugby tournament, which is still free to air in the UK. France and England look good, Ireland so-so and Wales truly terrible. Unlike my two Aussie uncles I'm a very, very occasional gambler, and I've two five UKP bets on some of the results. We'll see... ******** I've seen The Boys From Brazil but not read the book; might give it a go if I can find a cheap copy. |

An interview with Michael Hutchence from 1986 where he says about two minutes into it that The Go-Betweens are his favourite band. Which is lovely. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zS7HTB3N iDA |

Forager - Tiny Desk Concert The algorithm seems to have me pretty well mapped out by now. Just heard the first song so far, try the rest later. Cool lyric: "You've got the right touch of vintage; a layer of grit. But I kinda think that you're full of sh**." The danger is they get too jazzed up for me, we shall see. Nice comment in the, um, comments: "So the singer with an angelic voice is also a Yale Law graduate who works as an attorney for non-for-profit advocacy org ... underachiever..." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sIJ1IRE 8SE |
