The GB's fans I've met personally over the years have had a marked tendency, unsurprisingly, to be commited and discerning readers - so I'm kind of interested which books and writer's do it for the people who use these boards. The literary loves of my life are many but include people such as Knut Hamsun, Henry Green, Patrick Hamilton, Henry Miller, Celine, Orwell, Evelyn Waugh, Graham Greene etc etc. I'm very much hoping that if anybody responds the names Tolkien, Sebastian Foulkes, and JK effing Rowling will not feature......unless you're under 10 that is.

Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird is my favourite ever book (see elsewhere on this MB for my favourite ever album!). It's also one of the very, very few films that did not traduce the book it came from.

Barry Gifford, Mikhail Bulgakov, Greil Marcus, Somerset Maugham, Peter Carey and William Burroughs are among my favourites. We could start a book club: eg, Padraiq's book of the month (kidding).
