Has anyone heard other people play G-Bs material recently / ever ? I was at Luke Haines' gig during the Galway Arts Festival last week - he played a fine version of the Clarke Sisters..

PD, years ago I came across a tribute album consisting of Go-Betweens classics covered by other artists. Sadly, I don't know what it was called, but if I ever see it again, I'll happily let you know.

Amazon lists a tribute album called "Right Here: A Go-Betweens Tribute" as a cut-out; it was released 2000 and has 21 tracks by artists I don't know with the exception of Frente. It also lists "The Go-Between" by the Go-Betweens. Did they actually do a self-titled song?

No, it's not a song but an audio excerpt of a tv show or film of a conversation between a man and woman. The woman talks about lining up a go-between to talk to "off the record", "someone they can trust".

I think that cd originally came out much earlier than 2000. Many of the tracks were recorded in 1995.

It's a surprisingly really good album Stephan. I got it from Amazon as a cut-out years ago and it was well worth it. Standouts that I can recall now, not having played it in a very long time, are I Just Get Caught Out (Smudge), Don't Call Me Gone (Sean Sennett & Friends), Draining The Pool For You (The Steinbecks), and the brilliant Rock 'N' Roll Friend (The Drunk, The Monk, and The Spunk). The latter featured John Willsteed. It also features on their pretty good album Starving, Hysterical And Naked. It also has covers of Famous Blue Raincoat, Montague Terrace, Different Drum, Wichita Lineman, Ballad Of Easy Rider and a few originals.

Yes, Pádraig, the version of Rock 'N' Roll Friend by The Drunk, The Monk, and The Spunk is the stand out track for me too. They really bring out the pathos in the song.

I recall there's a kind of gothic version (to my ears, at least) of a Grant song. Was it 'Right here'? It used to make me laugh. I haven't played it in ages either.

Hello to everyone out there. This is my first post on this forum .
Walkabouts did a very good cover of "River People" This is not a song of Go - Betweens . It's from ( the first I guess ) personal work of Rober Forster Danger In the Past . The cover version acn be found in Walkabouts record Satisfied MInd.
It's great to hear that Luke Haines made a cover of a Go Betweens song because Auters were ( and are) one of my favorite bands . New Wave is a classic !
