This from an interview with Grant on fasterlouder.com.au:

“I hope by the time we get to Brisbane we’ll be in World Cup form!” Indeed, as the upcoming show in August at The Tivoli shall be recorded for a live DVD to be released later in the year.

Sorry if it's alreadt been reported.

Well at the Brisbane gig (where they shot the DVD), Robert said the DVD will be out 'November 4th', but the way he said it sounded like it was a joke.

PS: The Brisbane show was really great - it should make a great DVD for us all to watch.

Robert told me after the June 14th show in Chicago that they were planning on filming a show for a live DVD in a couple of months. He was spot on!

Some websites suggest January, so it's anyone's guess really. I was told November 4th as previously stated here.

Will the DVD get steadily more out of focus as it progresses, until it's just a blur for the last few songs, as a kind of nod to Ocean's Apart?

Saw the Gobees with our son Stuart earlier this year with our son Stuart at Brisbane's Tivoli. It was great to share it with him. Their music has bridged the 2 age groups(20's to late 40's)To witness the filming was unreal. We can hardly wait for the release of the DVD. I agree with Stuart that 4 Nov was mentioned in jest.. a lot of work needed to get final disc finished..a set list worth waiting for. To cap it off we knew they were a certainty for their ARIA recognition.

Google "That Striped Sunlight Sound" (or "stripped" for sellers who can't spell) - 25 Nov from J&B Hifi.

Whatever happens, thank God we have a GB's dvd on the way, "mastering scmastering"!!! What's worse, crap songs or crap mastering. I'd have been more disappointed if Oceans Apart was a lesson in how not to write songs when you are fifty! As it happens guys and girls, the songs were better than ever, its been a joy to listen to over the Summer and still is now. Its in my top 5 for the year. The remaining favourites being Nada Surf-This weight is a gift, Elbow - Leaders, Bobby Hebb - That's all I wanna know, Sigur Ros -Takk, Robert Plant LP. Tara.
Spence
PS God! if this had've been 1983, the list would have been GB's, Paul Haig, Orange Juice, Aztec Camera and The Monochrome Set!!!

That DVD & CD sound enticing to put it mildly. Can't be ordered on

http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/music/id/795923

as far as I could see. The pre-order option is no longer available but nor was there an option to "put in cart" - oh well, let's hang on until Jan - something to look forward to while winter drags on.

This is what I thought of the DVD. :-)

THE GO-BETWEENS - THAT STRIPED SUNLIGHT SOUND: One Weekend In Brisbane (Capitol/EMI)

That Striped Sunlight Sound is what The Go-Betweens dedicated their first single ‘Lee Remick’ to in May 1978. Those who attended the Brisbane leg of the Oceans Apart tour this winter may attest to what was not only a magnificent performance by Australia’s finest purveyors of literary-pop, but a large array of cameras dotted around the Tivoli theatre as well. The end product, That Striped Sunlight Sound, displays the essence of the band, where it’s not about The Go-Betweens per se, but a showcase of a great songbook that's always missed top 40 cultural consciousness. At its heart is the performers - Robert Forster, a man born for the silver screen, and his faithful co-star Grant McLennan, flanked by Adele Pickvance and Glenn Thompson in the band's second coming. As far as live performances committed to film go, it’s not Scorsese’s The Last Waltz, but does it have to be? Also included is a stunning acoustic performance by Forster and McLennan of Go-Betweens classics, performed in a Brisbane lounge room. The pair discuss and perform their favourites, from ‘Lee Remick’ to recent single ‘Finding You’, and trade anecdotes about the band's fabled past. This is passenger pop for travelling minds - climb aboard and enjoy the sight and sound.

****½ (Donat Tahiraj)

Thanks for the link, Matthew. I can't be sure we'll ever see the DVD in the States, so it's nice to be able to place an order early to get it--and to get the edition with the bonus material.

Between a new album, great tour, and now a DVD, this has been a banner GoBs year!

I got the DVD yesterday and played the acoustic session last night. It's great. It's also an interview about the band's career. Both Robert and Grant are insightful into their choices and what went on with their career. Robert is, of course, hilarious at times (particularly when describing Head Full Of Steam as "Prince with a cardigan") . Grant is pretty funny too. The performances are great. I just flicked through the full band show, but it looks really good also. I have not played the CD yet, but it seems to be the full band show, not a mixture of that and the acosutic as one of the links above would have you believe. The interviews of punters on a couch about who their favourite Go-Between is (and other questions too) is very sweet.

Padrag, I'm glad you got the DVD- do you know if I can get it at a DVD outlet? Oh, and by the way, I'm kinda spellbound by the punter interview of who their favourite Go-Between (present or past) is. If you ask me who my favourite is, I'll tell you clearly it's...

That answers a lot about the obsession that you appear to have with a particular manifestation of the band. If you are voting on the basis of who you are interested in musically then we have the stringed thing or the woodwind thing . . . . . and yet the band makes a sound transcending all of that. But in a wilder and less p.c. kind of (and I guess I'm younger than you) thing then Adelle sends me every time I watch the band . . . . . . .

I picked it up a couple of days after it was released. Had to go to three music stores before I found one that had it. So, it seems that it is out there, but not everywhere.

No, it's not, Richard. I checked with JB Hi-Fi online before ordering it and they confirmed it's not region-coded.
