Not sure where/if more of this interview exists.

Anyone else care to own up to their air guitar antics??

I remember reading the YLT quote in some longer interview with Grant, but I forget where.

For me, besides the Go-Betweens, Yo La Tengo has been THE band of the last 15 years or so (although the last couple of albums have been a letdown). Nice to hear Grant appreciates them too. Wonder if it works the other way? I'd love to hear YLT cover a GoBs song or two.

And I have to admit I'm ignorant of the Robert Vickers/Yo La Tengo connection. Robert played with them for awhile?

I did play with YLT for a short period in about 1990. They asked me to do a tour of Japan and some dates in NYC. We also did a batch of demos which I think might have been included in a recent release.

They had no label at the time and the noise thing wasn't really right for me so I left after the tour but I'm still friends with them and Ira was happy to hear about Grant's air guitar confession.

Thanks, Robert. I didn't think I needed to pick up the recent YLT compilation, but now I'm curious to hear the tracks you played on (if they're included on it). I can understand the reservations about the noise/skronk side of YLT. I'm curious--in GoBs rehearsals, did Grant or Robert ever show any tendencies to wail on guitar like that? You'd mentioned before that you liked it when Grant would get more innovative with his lead electric playing. How far out could he get?

Ha Ha no they did not. R&G are a little more controled than Ira. Grant was never that far out.

The songs I played on did not have names at the time so it's hard to tell what's what. I should get a copy and figure it out some time.
