dont know if ironic is the correct term, but to think he survived a near death experience about 10 years ago after a horrific accident, goes through the painful recovery, then takes his own life. his lyrics portrayed him as a child like character, so I think thats why i was so shocked to find out he did this. i think he had his demons like a lot of artists, but this seems such a waste of a talented life.
playing the album its a wonderful life as i type this, now i wonder if the title was a sarcastic clue to his state of mind.
cant find my cd of vivadixie......., its my favourite album of his (and in my top 10 albums of the 90s) and i need to play it before going to bed tonight

Very sad to hear this. I saw Sparklehorse play the night of his awful accident in January 1996. Tindersticks, Babybird and High Llamas were also on the same bill. It was a wonderful night of music.

Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk said Linkous shot himself outside a friend's house around 1:20 p.m. Saturday with his own rifle. DeBusk said Linkous was staying with friends and became upset after receiving a text message.
DeBusk said Linkous left no suicide note behind. The North Carolina-based artist was moving to Knoxville and staying with two friends, who told police Linkous was drinking and became upset after texting with an unknown person.
After saying he didn't want to talk about what was upsetting him, the friends said Linkous went upstairs for a short time, then left the house through a back door. A witness saw Linkous sit down nearby, take out his rifle, place it against his chest and pull the trigger.

It just gets worse.

listened to the second album good morning spider today. a masterpiece in its field.

also given his suicide, and after listening to all the albums in the last few days, i'm starting to read different things into album titles, song titles, and lyrics.
