Bloody good question that. It looks like an old Guild or Gretsch even, but isn't as distinctive as either make and might be a copy, some obscure manufacturer maybe? It could be a plain, old, but delightful Hohner. after some slow playing of that vid, I can't see any logo as such that will help us anoraks here! Its featured on the reverse of Danger in the past, Robert's first solo album. Its really beautiful whatever it is. I always remember robert playing a Fender Jaguar /Jazzmaster (poss pre CBS as Malcolm and Paul played in josef K) around the Tallulah '87 period. I saw them at Wolves poly and robert walked off the stage and down to the front row of standing people. And gusee who was in front of him, eye to eye whilst he swaggered through Clarke Sisters!!!! Great night it was too, I was left most impressed by Robert Vickers more than anything that night. I think the Weather prophets supported. they were really brilliant. A most underrated band. Peter Astor's guitar playing was superb, like Verlaine, Quine and Lenny kaye all in one! Though his vocal was remeniscent of somone singing through a faceful of cotton wool! Sorry. I digress. I'm Scottish! | ||

I haven't seen the video but I have seen the back of Danger. If it's that one, then it's an Australian Maton, maybe the fyrbird?? It should be on the Maton site. Try putting in "Maton guitars" on Google. Good luck!! Great Guitars. I have an acoustic "Tasman" by Maton and it's freakishly good. | ||

One of Grant's most distinguished guitars was a Rickenbacker (I don't know what model it was, unfortunately). Anyway, he and Robert Forster often used Rickenbackers in concert, especially when the Go-Betweens were enjoying fans and chart Sucess in England. Were any Rickenbackers featured in any Go-Betweens film clips? |
