I'd listen to it happily.

The anthology that turned me onto the Go Bees in 1990 was the U.S. version of the "1978-1990" anthology. I just went looking for it when the "Bellavista" thread started and realized, to my dismay, that I no longer have it. I gave it away to a friend after getting all the songs on newer reissues.

It is a very wide-ranging collection, sweeping in early things like "Hammer the Hammer" and "People Say" and including newer rarities (at the time) such as "Rock n Roll Friend" and Grant's demo "You Won't Find It Again" plus all of the required hits-that-should-have-been with the single exception of "Part Company" which really should have been there in favor of "Don't Call Me Gone." I can't remember how many tracks it had but they all fit on one CD. It remains the best single CD introduction to the original run of the Go Bees in my opinion and probably should have been reissued rather than the clumsy compilation of "Bellavista Terrace."

I really love that 78-90 compilation I ignored it initially as i had all the albums but then picked up the tape whilst on holiday in Devon to play in the car more than 10 years ago. It's still in the car ( different car now). In fact out of all the tapes I owned this is the only one I bother with and love listening to it. The only negative is that some of the better songs on Liberty Belle are left off. As I remember the tape/cd/album had all different songs. To my mind the tape had them most songs.I wish in fact they would rerelease it!

There's no tracks from Send Me A Lullaby, Beno!

I quite like the 2LP version of 1978-1990, with those forgotten B-sides like 'Don't Call Me Gone' and 'Mexican Postcard.'

What an excellent choice Beno! - far better than Bellavista Terrace in my opinion. However I agree with Donat 'Mexican Postcard' is one of my favourites. I'll probably get shot down in flames but I would also have to find room for 'Little Joe' (hated by David Nichols) and Lindy Morrison's favourite Go-Betweens song 'Rare Breed'

19.i'm alright

Well, that is the song that got me to buy 16LL in
November of 1988, my first ever GB purchase.

Second purchse was the single CD version of 1978-1990.

I would add in " head full of steam" and " In the core of a flame" together with "bow down" surely the finest sequence of go-betweens songs!
I would leave out "you tell me " and "as long as that".
