A band called "The Lodger" talks of their love of the GBs - anyone heard this band? "Joe M is bassist in The Lodger. They've got a new single out on Monday (the excellent double A-side 'Watching/Not So Fast', and he's the latest to let us in on his personal soundtrack. Pulp - Misshapes <snip> The Smiths - Cemetery Gates <snip> The Auteurs - After Murder Park <snip> Wire - Field Day For The Sundays <snip> The Go-Betweens - It Could Be Anyone One day when I was at the height of Haines-fever, I actually met him in Camden. He was wearing a crumpled white suit and was severely hungover. I hi-jacked him as he attempted to buy some fags in a newsagent - told him I ran a website about him, and asked for his autograph - the irony of which wasn't lost on me - nor, presumably him. It was this moment when I realized it was time for a new hero. I knew that Haines often cited the Go-Betweens as an influence so I took this as a sign to go and buy their first LP 'Send Me A Lullaby' - the last track of which I've chosen here. The Go-Betweens are simply unparalleled in my mind - like The Auteurs for grown-ups - you can see in McLennan's lyrics where Haines hi-jacked some of his ideas. I could ramble about the Go-B's all day, <snip> |

I know Joe and he's a thoroughly nice fellow. Very good taste in music and I was pleased to see that he's not afraid to play The GBs at his BBQs. The Lodger are one of the most interesting and melodic bands of the current crop of hip Leeds bands |
