Joy Division - Atmosphere. Listening inspired by the recent 30th anniversary of the death of Ian Curtis.

Geoff, track from the forthcoming album on his MySpace page ( Telepathic Head.)

Willie O'Winsbury by The Owl Service. From their wonderful new album 'The View From The Hill.' Richard Thompson used the tune for his song 'Farewell Farewell.' Should appeal to fans of Fairport Convention, Fotheringay, Thompson and Denny.

Shane, Moon & the Melodies is a great album, isn't it. The poppier numbers that Liz sings on are fabulous, but the more ambient stuff is lovely, too.

Haven't heard the Moon and the Melodies since I got rid of my record player. I will have to chase that last Cocteau's down on cd.

Yeah, I like it a lot. I also find it makes a great twin (ba-boom-tish) album to Victorialand, especially with songs like Lazy Calm.

Continuing the Cocteaus-related theme...

Lisa Dewey: Sometimes [http://www.sendspace.com/file/tag6li]

Lisa is a fairly obscure American indie artist (on her own label Kitchen Whore Records), but her sound is very Cocteaus-influenced and cool. Hell, she even has Simon Raymonde playing guitar on the above track. Bass is provided by the top cool Michael Steele.

I find it quite hard to pick favourites off that album because there's so many great songs. One of the other interesting things about it is that even with the songs having the big Spector production, they still sound excellent stripped down. Let It Down or All Things Must Pass for instance sound great played solo acoustic.

Song of the day DID turn out to be the Drums "Let's go surfing"! After playing the album more, I'm actually picking up a mix of 1st album Beach Boys and Joy Division.
Dare I say this is a good thing!
