Forgive this posting being an aside to this board's main area of interest, but obviously there are a number of Saints and Laughing Clowns fans here.

The good news (at least for Australian listeners) is new reissues of both these bands are imminent. The Saints are about to receive the box set treatment from EMI here (and probably also in the UK, but I can't be sure about that). The box is titled All Times Through Paradise and is due for release in July. Remastering this time has been taken care of by Ed Kuepper, one suspects to his usual exacting standards.

The first three albums will be supplemented by all the bonus EP and outtake tracks available on the earlier Raven 2CD set Wild About You. It gets better: the material from the video Hymns of Oblivion (which featured the band playing live at Paddington Town Hall in Sydney shortly before their departure for London), is also included. Apparently the audio quality is far superior to that on the video and also the version of Nights in Venice available on the earlier Scarce Saints compilation, with the earlier speed problems corrected.

Finally, there is a fourth CD consisting of the original band playing a gig in London, 1977. Sadly this is not the tour with the added brass section, but still enough to get this fan excited.

On the Laughing Clowns front, I know much less, except that a new compilation, Cruel But Fair, will follow the Saints box.

So for those people who still haven't heard Prehistoric Sounds, save your pennies, because I'd say this will be the final (ie definitive) word on the Kuepper/Bailey era Saints.

The Wild About You comp had tantalising mention in the CD booklet of a demo (?) recorded for EG records of a Bailey song and a Kuepper song - the recording apparently made it clear that the two could no longer work together (at least on an equal footing in the Saints, since they DID work together about five years later when Kuepper played bass for Bailey's Saints). I'd love to hear THOSE tracks.
