Cate Blanchett's husband Andrew Upton recently threw a 40th birthday party. A few of my film industry friends scored invites as they'd worked recently with Blanchett on a film (Little Fish). Then I heard about the entertainment on offer at the party. I considered posing as one of my friends' kids when I heard the house band would be The Go-Betweens.

A text message from the party revealed my friend was sitting with the harbour behind her and The Go-Bs in front, playing Love Goes On. Ludicrously, many of the guests surveyed there knew who the GoBs were, but apparently Upton is a fan. So there's another reason to envy him.

Sounds great & I wish I was there.

Maybe it could inspire Robert to penn a sequel to 'Draining the pool for you' since that was supposedly to have been set in Sydney in the late eighties at a harbourside mansion.
On another bent I didn't know that the band was now doing 40th birthday's.

Actually, I was as incredulous as you, Randy.

BTW, I meant to say "Ludicrously, many of the guests surveyed there didn't know who the GoBs were."

Todd, I had similar thoughts about Robert writing another ode like Lee Remick or Caroline and I.

And I think you can get The Go-Betweens to play your party as long as they either get paid enough or if you're a film star and they are fans.

Roger it sounds great.
It kind of makes sense that they would play at Andrew Uptons bash as they (the Blanchett's) have been known to hang out with the Cave family in Brighton.

All the more reason to penn a sequel to 'Draining the Pool' especially if many of the guests didn't know who the 'entertainment' was for the evening. Sounds very 'Sydney' if you ask me.

As much as I'd love the Go Betweens to play,
I would still like the Dirty Three to play at my 40th (a few years off yet thankfully) just to really blow everyone's brains out !!

Roger, did Robert and Grant mention Amanda, Lindy, John or Robert Vickers by name? Better still, did any of them turn up by surprise?
