The great thing about this message board is that nobody gets upset when we have differences of opinions. Nobody throws the toys out the pram, or spits the dummy (more quaint English phrases for Randy!), which is more than can be said for other message boards I frequent. There is one well known reggae messageboard where people used to act like drama queens and threaten violence and verbally assisinate each other on an hourly basis. People were regularly banned, and rival boards were set up. The only small breakout of discontent I can remember was over the infamous "Sound Quality of Oceans Apart" thread, apart from that its all very civil and jocular. No doubt over the next few days WW3 will break out!

Were you around a couple of years ago, when a particular since-barred poster (we'll spare naming him) went into attack mode on just about everyone and everything? I was a lurker back then because the atmosphere was utterly poisonous with that guy around. It seems like this community rebuilt and grew after his (forced) departure. I'm pleasantly surprised by how lively the board's been in the past few months--more than it was last summer, when the band was touring and had a new album out.

DON'T mention the war Kurt. Think of the younger ones. They don't know what we went through.

Yeah Kevin, you were lucky to avoid a ferocious civil war of attrition in 2004. Many good men and women served; some never made it home (or at least back to the message board).

It was a terrible time and one we rarely speak of round these parts. For some the hurt is still just too raw. I took a few hits myself, got my Purple Heart. But a few listens to 16 Lovers Lane and the 1978-90 collection helped me make a full recovery. Eventually.

The genie's out of the bottle now. Let the healing begin.

You listened to 16LL Padraig? HOW DARE YOU. I HATE THAT ALBUM. I SHALL HAVE TO KILL YOU....

(that was a very laboured joke, folks)

The electronic world of communication has allowed certain indivduals to break down the old fashioned values of common courtesy and respect for ones fellow (wo)man!
I run a small label, just a cottage industry type thing, and as we are sometimes a bit slow in sending stuff out, you know like as we both have busy (professional lives in the day (and most of the night - I'm a designer!), if you've had a busy week and the kids need priority etc etc, most people are very understanding and polite if we let them know, and we never cash a cheque until the product has been sent out...but one guy who's responsible for running a well known fan site really came down heavy on us, slagging us, saying we wre untrustworthy,we weren't as good as him, if he ran it he'd do it better than us, and so on,you name it he said it, really offended me. It was as if the world was going to end, right here, right now!! The best of it was, that I had never even heard of this guy. The world of e-mail/msg boards can be a licence for assholes to disrespect people BIGTIME without ever knowing them or meeting them, I feel very sad for them. I remember I used to frequent The Asian Dub Foundation msg board a lot a few years ago, that msg board was such a hot potato, especially around the time of 911. Very frightening, I won't go into it, but a bit similar to one of the views above, if you had an opinion, you were NOT entitled to it! It was also one of the very fastest realtime msg boards around, or that I went on. I've only really frequented a few, not really my type of thing, but the GoBees msg board is great!
This board is a laugh. It really shows the amount of passion around doesn't it!?

Yeh Spence, I've seen some pretty ugly stuff in the electronic world. But I've been particularly enjoying this board lately.

I had almost forgotten about that individual who was forced to head to the hills. Although it's hard not to forget that through his actions he put a virus on my work PC! (rather embarassing).

I've been wondering for a while what's down to the explosion of interest on this board? As Kurt said the timing is odd. There is more interest now than when the band toured last year. I think we will look back on 2005 as a bumper year for the band. I doubt they will play more than 2 or 3 gigs this year.

There are a lot of new memebers on this board of late: has the site been advertised more prominently on search engines? the likes of Hardin have thrown up some interesting threads.

This message board is really good, great discussions not only about the GBs but other issues music and occasional sport as well, its is really active. I'm surprised when I've not been on for a day or so how may posts there are. So Thanks everyone.Though I an intrigued to know who was causing the trouble.

He was Mark something-or-other. I don't recall the last name. I love this board. Somebody will put something on here that pulls an unexpected laugh out of me almost everyday. Example: Kevin's thoughtful translation of "pish."

The guy was a nutter. Hell bent on setting the record straight, went to extreme lengths to pull sources out of nowhere. I think he claimed to be a friend of Lindy too. All seems a long time ago!

It was indeed a bad time. I regret to this day my small contribution to it.

somebody mentioned that this place was really good recently. i agree and its certainly much busier. in the last 24 hours their have been 15 different threads discussed. If you scroll down to the oldest thread on this forum it is from 1st October 2005. It took until 23rd October for 15 more threads to have been discussed! I dont know that this means there is any benefit to the people who run the board given that there is no advertising to make money from, but it must be a good thing somehow.

Randy, was it Mark Isley? I inadvertantly stumbled across something called The Playpen(??) when I looked at the Archive section of this messageboard. If it was him, I got bored and scared in equal measure after a cursory glance at this guys posts - he seemed to have issues with admin and other posters. Liked to use bold, italics and underlining a lot when typing, didnt he?

I remember that at the time that someone said Isley was also banned from 'Alt Aussie Motorcycles' Usenet Board. No offence to people who are interested in that field but it did make me laugh at the time.

That's the name. I forgot that a special place had been set up for his posts. Let's just say he had a lot of energy.
