Any of you guys into Destroyer? I am a big fan of The New Pornographers so thought I would check out Dan Bejars band. Heard Streethawk via Napster and its sounds pretty cool. Ive noticed that the new one, Destroyers Rubies is getting rave reviews in the States. Is it worth getting on import, no sign of a release here in UK yet

I haven't heard an entire Destroyer album, but will probably pick up the new one. Dan Bejar is a really interesting songwriter and singer. I've downloaded five or six Destroyer tracks from various sources. If you want to hear more before you buy, try Salon.com's Daily Download page; they had three MP3 downloads from the new album a few weeks ago that may still be available.

they're alright. i've heard the streethawk album, which i thought was pretty good, but got burnt out on it somewhat quickly (i can only take that guy's singing, and his schtick, in small doses, it seems).

i also like the kiss album, "destroyer." Detroit Rock City!!!!!

Kev, I hesitate to recommend anything to you, since we, at times, have divergent tastes, apparently...having said that, I think Destroyer's Rubies is "ace"...have to warn you, though - it's very poppy, very "busy", meaning there's all kinds of melodic shit happening all over the place, and very wordy, verbose...the lyrics sound cool, are funny, but are basically about nothing...it's not unlike the New Pornos, though probably not quite as good...hope that helps.

sounds good Hardin, although "wordy" might be something that puts me off. I always thought that being "wordy" stopped me enjoying Bright Eyes as much as I should. Now, I have a memory like a sieve, but I thought the only "taste" issues we had were over 16LL? :-)

Ah, but 16 LL is a big one, Kevin, like Democrat vs. Republican :-) But seriously, we probably agree about more musical things than not...

Striving to keep an open mind, I tried to like Bright Eyes, but found myself put off by the dude's whininess...and I'm sure the verbosity is part of that: it's like being stuck in a conversation with a self-involved friend who simply can't stop talking about himself.

I do like the song Bright Eyes does on that disc with Emmylou, who is kind of a godess to me...Destroyer is pretty post-modernish to me...still tuneful though...
