television - little johnny jewel.

bits of the intro to little johnny jewel sounds very similar to the sounds talking heads were making on their early stuff. does anybody know what came first? i know the television song was released in 1975, but talking heads demoed songs for cbs records in 75 that probably had lots of stuff that would appear on early singles/first album

I think that Television would have been first there, Skully. With the duelling guitar sounds being evident from year dot in their career. I'm not sure of the exact timeline & I'm not going to check on Wiki, for obvious reasons. But the original Heads line-up didn't include Jerry Harrison & I've heard the early demos with them as a 3-piece. I can't remember exactly who said it, but 1 member of TH mentions how much their debut, 'Love -> Building On Fire' sounds like Television, rather than the other way around. It's on the insert for 'Sand In The Vaseline'

Jimi Hendrix Experience: Castles Made Of Sand

An unreleased instrumental alternate take of this has just been made available (with several other tracks from the upcoming boxset, including a Jimi version of Tears of Rage and a previously unheard song called Lonely Avenue) and its pretty damn cool.

Tears - Chameleons UK

One of those songs I've heard billions of times and I still never get sick of it. The guitar playing is so gorgeous.

Les madeleines - Francoise Hardy

Used to her tinkle-tonkle melodic Sixties stuff, hearing her voice set against this kind of rough Allmans style slide work is truly pleasurable. Fine album, too, Le Danger.

Buffalo Springfield - Flying on the Ground is Wrong

Well, duh...and bricks are heavy. Excellent proof that along with all his other virtues Neil knew his way around a beautiful hook from an early age.

Afro blue - Derek Trucks band

Sometimes a bit of rip-it-up flute, horn and guitar grandstanding is just what's needed...
