...... whats the chances of us having some sort of Go-Betweens convention?
The main problem is that we are scattered all over Europe, The USA and Australia. Can it be done? Maybe tie it in with the tour for the next album? Nothings impossible these days, is it?

I mentioned this, sort of jokingly, but sort of not, in another thread. I said we should all meet in Spring Hill at fair time and dress as our favourite Go-Between. Bags not being Robert in a dress.

What about declaring an International Go-Betweens Day with meetings in various places.

I guess Hardin, Jeff, Randy, and I could organize the U.S. West Coast GoB-con!

All four of us. That's about how many people there were at the Troubadour when they played last spring. I like the idea of meeting in Spring Hill. Maybe we'd get to experience one of those crazy Brisbane storms.

I don't know what Brisbane storms are like, but if they are anything like the spectacular electrical storms we get on the Sydney coast then they would be something to behold.

I wonder if Ed Kuepper's Electrical Storm is about Sydney (where he lives) or Brisbane (where he's from).

I heard that album for the first time yesterday Padraig! (thought I would 'research' Kuepper as I downloaded a superb Laughing Clowns MP3 a while ago and was very intrigued) To me its mixed - the tracks are either brilliant or not s'good. Knowing me I will probably grow to love the whole album. Whats your pick for best Laughing Clowns record?

Matt, just spring for the full "Cruel but Fair" set. It's all worth it.

I vote for Cichli Suite's Italian pied a' terre as the site for the first Annual GB Fan Con!...if he hosts, I'm so there dude...pauper that I am, I'll scrape up air fare...

Also, I read about Flaming Lips heading up the entertainment for some kind of psychedelic lifestyles cruise...Not that I care for FL (they make for fun reading, however), but it struck me that the idea could work for the GBs...imagine - we could ask them all these scintillating questions, about production, songwriting, acoustic vs. electric, in person...

Being the devoted fans we are, I think we deserve that kind of access!

Ed Kuepper has been living in Brisbane for at least the last 5 or so years.

Nice suggestion, Hardin!

and you can all stay at my apartment too. I haven't said anything to Mrs Suite but I'm sure she wouldn't mind... not.

I'm not sure the GBS would be too keen to attend. I have the impression they like to maintain an aloofness from their fans. Perhaps it's because they've never posted here, unlike other artists I've seen who regularly contribute to their web site.

Maybe, they are following the footsteps of their idol, Bob Dylan. I read recently that Dylan and Merle Haggard did a 30 date tour where Haggard didn't get to speak to Dylan once.

Mingus, I saw Ed play the Marrickville festival in inner west Sydney in September 2002 and he was billed as a local resident. I have no knowledge of his whereabouts other than that and the fact that he lived in the inner west of Sydney when I also did in 1992.

Cichli, Thought I'd try...thought maybe that if I asked, you wouldn't say no (like Morrissey).

If there were to be a West coast GB conference, we could have it at my apartment, but if more than eight attended, someone would have to bring chairs.

Actually, despite my joking, I think I like my idols to stay aloof - it helps keep up the mystique. I don't want to find out that Robert wrote "Dive for your Memory" about his toy poodle, etc...

Well, I'm sure wouldn't turn a regular Go-Betweens message board contributor away from my door.

Hardin, I can't believe you have 291 posts and you've only been registered here since March!!!

Do you write all you posts or do you franchise the Hardin Smith brand to other posters! :-)

That's a nice attitude Cichli but what if they outstay their welcome?
Central Europeans should meet in a German farmhouse.
Fans from S. England will make a pilgrimmage to the Ocean's Apart bar.

Yeah Cichli, I'm like that artist, who was it? Jeff Koons? who paid other people to do his stuff and then affixed his signature...

Actually, not to bore you with the details, I use a custom (and poorly) designed software app. in my job, that takes forever to run...so, I end up with some fairly big (5-10 minute) chunks of time to fill...so doing this "keeps me off the streets".

Pádraig, I guess it's not that important but I think the 2002 Marrickville billing was out of date or wishful thinking; Ed was definitely living in Brisbane then.

It's the cheaper house prices in Brisbane. Far cheaper than Sydney.
