I hear that Michael Vaughan has named his baby girl Tallulah. Do you reckon he got into the GBs whilst smashing McGrath, Warney and co all over the ground on the Ashes tour a couple of years ago? |

Heard a good story on this theme C Gull. Rod Marsh appeared on this is your life in Australia. Clive Lloyd came on and talked about the great relationship between the West Indies and Australia, saying that Brian Lara after scoring mega runs at the Sydney Cricket Ground had named his baby born shortly after... Sydney. Clive then went on to point out that it was lucky Lara hadn't been playing in Pakistan at Lahore. Off to the Pixies soon, heard last night was superb, .. tell ya soon. Tallulah is definitely on my list. |

Weird GBs cricket connections abound. Was it my imagination or did Lindy M all but admit on this very board that she wined and dined England bowler turned sports journalist Derick Pringle sometime in the 80s? |

Yeah, I mentioned Derek Pringle on another thread. She said they went out for dinner together but the gist was she got a wee bit tipsy and Pringle was left dangling. She met him through Greg Matthews, a bald Aussie spinner. For the uninitiated, Pringle was the worst player ever to represent England. I seem to remember a reference in the book to Robert playing cricket and running around shouting 'Let's Camp it Up!' Or was it rugby? |

Derek Pringle wasn't that bad actually. Much maligned for (probably) being a public school type, but (at least by my recollection) he became a pretty useful test bowler. I shall check his stats shortly, and prepare to eat my words. Greg Matthews lived in my aunt and uncle's caravan in Birmingham, but that's another story. |

There was a hint of rebellion in 'old Pringers' (as Henry Blofeld would no doubt call him) - he had an earring and read 'The Guardian'. He had a batting average of 15 and a bowling average of 35. So yes he was a bit crap. |

Ted, Pringle was not much maligned for going to a public school, though that is just one more reason to dislike him; he was much maligned because he was bad, bad, bad. A good county cricketer though. He only get in because the 80s and early 90s, beating Australia aside, where the dark years for English cricket. As for him being a rebel, he now writes about cricket for the Telegraph. Hmm. |

Forget Pringle. In Clinton Walker's book 'Im Stranded' he mentions a cricket match in the late eighties, played in Sydney (when the band was living there)between various members of asorted bands/record companies. Grant McLennan & Robert Forster both played (well i'm led to believe!!. Since you lucky folk are about to get a couple of gigs over in London, why don't you get together and organise a Go Betweens cricket day with the band invited to play etc ???. I'm sure if you got in touch with the record company and put it too them you could come up with something. It would be a hoot, get Johnathon Turner on the case now, as i'm sure it would be a fun day with music and good booze thrown in, not to mention the cricket. Ther are no doubt a few Aussies in the County comp this summer who are GOBS fans as well. Over to you. |

I remember that game. True Tone, who were our Australian label at the time organised it. Paul Kelly and some other people played. Robert and Grant could both play a bit back then. I think I remember Grant keeping wickets but I could be mistaken. I would say Robert's more likely to be playing golf rather than cricket now. |

And weirdly in about 90/91 Derek Pringle stayed with some friends of mine in New York. No connection to Lindy at all. He was friends with their family so it was just a coincidence. |

Its a lousy newspaper but here are some of Pringle's outpourings http://www.sport.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?menuId=1087&menuItemId=7109&view=COLUMNIST&grid=C2 I wonder what he would think if he knew he was being discussed here? |

He certainly isn't a rebel now is he!! He looks a bit like David Mellor!! That tubby little chap of Tory MP & Radio Five Live fame. No doubt the earrings have gone as well. Alas. |
