So these gigs are promos for the three rereleases -anyone got any word on when to expect the offical follow up to BYBO in the future?? Also just picked up the first Aztec Camera album after many years on CD. Has it on vinyl when it first came out. Still sounds brill and to think that Roddy Frame was only 17 I think when this was recorded. A excellent album. |

A lot of the songs on 'High Land, Hard Rain' were written when Roddy was only 15 years old; astonishing, when the depth and emotion in the words on that album are considered. |

"Walk Out To Winter," "Pillar To Post," "Release" are songs so beguiling that I have no trouble ranking "High Land, Hard Rain" over the first two Smiths albums. An overlooked classic. I even like polished chartbound fare like "Somewhere In My Heart".... |

I agree, High Land Hard Rain is truly an underrated classic. I think Knife is quite good too. Anyone like Dreamland? I mean, it's got nothing on High Land or the stellar Postcard singles, but if you can get past the slickness, it's actually a good album. Sister Ann, Birds, Black Lucia... there are some really nice songs. |

'Knife' got a terrible slating on its release (mostly to do with Rodddy choosing the perennially unhip Mark Knopfler as producer, I think), but it's always been my favourite Aztec Camera album. His recent solo stuff is a real return to form; 'Surf' is right up there with the Blue Nile's 'Hats', The Smiths 'The Smiths' and 'Libert Belle' as one of my favourite albums ever. |
