Sad news. I was a Japan fanatic at the time and saw them at an unforgettable concert in Bruxelles, one of my first. After the split, I saw Mick Karn in Germany playing some hermetic music (for me) with jazz musicians I don't remember the name.
I'll listen to Tin Drum tonight.

I didn't get into Japan until a few years ago, but I did buy the Rain Tree Crow CD in 1992 when it first was released. I also bought the Dalis Car album soon after it was released as the title cut was so cool. Mick sure a powerfull bass player. He's probably trading off licks and bass runs with with Jaco Pastorius and Paul Chambers somewhere.

I can't help but think of Mr. Blonde and Marvin Nash (and his soon-to-be cut off ear thanks to Blondie) ever time I here Stuck In The Middle With You. It probably doesn't help that I have the Mr. Blonde 10th Anniversary Special Editon DVD of Reservor Dogs.

Really sad news. I'm a longtime fan of Japan and they simply wouldn't have been Japan without Karn's rubbery fretless bass. Each member of that band brought something equally unique, but it seems for some that Karn's bass playing stands out the most. Sounds like Karn had difficulty covering medical costs, which is so wrong on so many levels.
