Its a long time since I was in NZ, so things may have changed a fair bit. I recommend the museum (Te Papa) which is in the city centre by the waterfront. The Wellington cable car gives you a good view over the city, and a walk back down through the botanic gardens is nice...if the weather's on your side. The top of Mount Victoria has a lookout across the city, its a fairly hard walk up - but there's a bus (or there was). Cuba Street's quite lively and had a few decent record shops at the time. Finally, you need the weather! I'd take my recommendations with a bit of a pinch of salt, and check they're still operating. Cheers Jon |

We had a wonderful time in Wellington. The cable car / botanic gardens trip was just the ticket! Cuba St is down to one record shop, but it's a good one - Slow Boat Records. Te Papa was disappointing, but I'm sure it's a blip. It seems to be highly praised by everyone. The Parliament House tour was excellent. |
