Great to see them back. In vinyl terms, the album comes into it's own about midway through side one - I could understand newcomers to The Feelies being somewhat underwhelmed as the opening 3/4 songs are tentative efforts to say the least. Sonically, the album recalls 'The Good Earth' & 'Only Life' with at least one (presumably deliberate) nod to 'Crazy Rhythms'. |

Don't tell me I've been listening to Sides One & Two in reverse order!?! I wasn't necessarily being critical of the opening songs - my initial reaction was that they might have been better served had they taken a leaf from Grant 'n Bob's 10 song limit but that's nitpicking. Anyway, I've only had the record for 3 days - by next week I may well have an entirely different view on all of the above. |
