My Bloody Valentine - Soon (Andrew Weatherall Mix). One of the very rare occasions where a remix (almost) lives up to the genius of the original.

A fine one indeed, Padraig. Marshall Crenshaw does a good live cover of that.

Missed the Springheel Jack mention above until just now. Am not sure I've ever heard them mentioned around here before. Love their first two albums.

That's the song Allen, not the group! It's an old reggaeish track Peel used to play that I loved, one of the few 12" singles I ever bought and, unusually for the genre, with a strong feminist message. Andrew's post brought it to mind. Actually, there's a thing, does there exist a really great reggae album by a female artist? I know a few names, but I've never heard (of) one.

in answer to your question andrew, no there isn't. certainly not in my opinion, and i have never read of such a thing. i own several hundred reggae albums, not one by a woman.

Yeah, you'd think at least the I 3 would have got some good stuff out, either together or individually. Judy Mowatt's "Black woman" album seems to get the internet thumbs up as best in category ...

Nuclear - Ryan Adams

Cracking start to the Demolition album. RA's voice is a dream throughout on this one.

Ah, that one really blows the cobwebs away. I was honing my skills in the Teviot Row snooker room when that came out...
