not a great fan of any of the albums he produced (except buzzcocks), but he was one of the first "name" producers i was aware of. to think he was only in his early 30's when he produced buzzcocks and human leagues "dare" is pretty impressive though. at that time i always thought producers were like teachers and by law had to be at least 20 years older than the band! http://www.spinnermusic.co.uk/2011/06/06 /martin-rushent-producer-human-league-de ad/ |

I love Dare and the remix album that followed it. I played both those records over and over back then. This is a great quote from him about Dare: "Had somebody said to me then, 'Do you realise that in 30 years' time people will still be talking about this record, it will still be selling and it will be hailed as a marker in the sand? That generation after generation of young kids will go for it and get into it and emulate it and dance to it?' I'd have said 'You're f---ing mad!' But that's what's happened. It's amazing, it's really quite amazing." |

I wonder who will be picked to finish up the 30th Anniversary Edition of Dare that Martin was working on? |

Sad news. Rushent's name pops up numerous times in my record collection. I remember reading an interview with him in which he said that with Dare, he was trying to make the programmed rhythms capture the feel of an actual band, with subtle shifts in dynamic and whatnot. It wasn't simply about learning how to use all that new technology, but making it sound good. I'd say he deserves all the credit he gets for that album. |

It's possible he had finished it already Michael. It's getting close to the time it will be released. On a similar note, I'm looking forward to seeing what comes with the inevitable 20th anniversary edition of Nevermind, and am hoping there will also be a 20th anniversary edition of Bandwagonesque. |

Pádraig, No amazon.com 20th anniversary editions on either one of those yet. I'm betting that there will be one for Achtung Baby as well. I wonder if Loveless will get one as well? I will be getting the 25th anniversary edition of Lifes Rich Pageant next month. |

Loveless did get a remastered reissue a few years ago, but no extras. I get the feeling that Kevin Shields is a bit reluctant to do that kind of thing. |

Allen, According to amazon.co.uk, a 2 disc version of Loveless will be available on September 19th. Remastered by none other than Mr. Shields himself! Woot!! Woot!!! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Loveless-Re-mast ered-Kevin-Shields-2CD/dp/B00197X1V8/ref =sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307986429&sr=1-1 |

Don't hold your breath for that MBV release lads. A two-disc version was supposed to come out two years ago - some review copies were even sent out - but Kevin Shields stopped it at the last minute. The second disc did not contain the great EP tracks, but a remix of Loveless which the review I saw said was pretty much indistinguishable from the first mix. I'll believe a remastered Loveless is on the way when I have it. |
