We have touched on this before with the demise of record stores, but this is big news if CD's are discontinued in a couple of years. Although maybe it is just the majors that are threatening this?
In the future, hopefully FLAC becomes the norm, then all we need is the facility to play the music files back on equipment comparable to CD players.
I suppose all this becomes even more inevitable with this announcement today
