a.k.a. The not too cool thread.

For those considering investigating the possibilities of Shaped Note Singing as exemplified by the Sacred Harp Singers at Liberty Church from the Cold Mountian CD.

Have a look at http://www.loudhymns.com. I just recieved the "100th Anniversary Alabama Sacred Harp Musical Convention" double CD from this vendor and I expected much less of it, than what I received.

These are the authentic, in church, amateur live audio recordings from (in this case) Alabama. These CDs are not in mass production and each disk is individually burnt by the recording engineer.

Rare and authentic, the quality of the recording and the quality of the live performances wildly exceeded my expectations (and I am fussy). You can expect audio and singing performance quality very close to that heard on the Cold Mountian CD, without any exaggeration. If you are an audiophile and want to satisfy yourself of their quality, please read the notes on the recordings entitled "Technical Recording Aspects" after the product listing on this page.

Based on my dealings with this vendor, you can rely the notes he makes for each recording, when making your own selection.

I am not religious. The joy, for me, is found in the strength and beauty of the harmonious co-ordination of dozens of 1'st class human voices that is exhibited by this style of singing (Shaped Note Singing), generous and genuine examples of which can be found on these recordings.
