On the subject of New Order, aren't they a fine example of a band being worth more than the sum of it's parts. Electronic were probably the best offshoot from Joy Division/New Order and their records have dated very badly.Their output sounds like Pet Shop Boys B-sides but not as good. |

I think 'getting away with it' still sounds class - a great single. i recently listened to'raise the pressure' the second lp and there is some good stuff on there but a lot of the songs go on too long or are spoilt by needless (and yes, now maybe dated) dance-music-type experimentation. monaco, revenge and the other two - perhaps the world could have lived without them... |

"Get The Message" ranks up there w/anything New Order and the Smiths released. A beautiful single. I'll never forget hearing it on my college radio station in the summer of '91. As usual with Johnny Marr, he uses a chord progression so obvious that it's a wonder others haven't discovered it so that they too can write a song this gorgeous. As for Raise The Pressure...yeah, "Forbidden City," "For You" and (maybe) "Out of My League" are fine, but even in 1996 the beats sounded dated and tinny, as if Barney and Johnny hadn't heard any new music since 1990. |

never bothered with twisted tenderness - the one song i heard just sounded v guitary n rocky (not that there's anything wrong with this of course - just not what i think electronic best at.) rest of album in same vein/worth getting after all/etc? |

my claim to fame... i once sold mark e smith a can Lp when I used to work in a record store in Cambridge. he was doing a show that night at the corn exchange and i asked him to dedicate a song to my then girlfriend. that night he sang bill is dead and dedicated it to my beloved. now i've gone and ruined MES's reputation as a mean old bugger haven't i... |
