It would be *really* nice and helpful if someone could give us some *definite* info on release dates for the reissues. Anything would be more helpful than trying to rely Amazon.

Not adding much but this is quite a good site for reviews

Don't be fooled! I bought all three thinking they were the new re-releases (they are certainly as advertised as such! -ed). They arrived this morning, however they are nothing but the 1996 reissues in all their steaming glory. Now they are en route 'back to sender'.

I suspected trouble, I 'm not sure why but the neon glow seemed a bit fishy.
What I would ask is how they made the connection?

Why are we not hearing *any* word on this from official sources? Does Jonathan know anything about this?

Somehow it seems oddly fitting that there is so much mystery (not to mention complete lack of official word) surrounding something as simple as a release date.

So does anyone have information on a website for the record company in Ireland/UK that we can order the new CDs from?

Hi Socialman

My understanding is that a Lomax Records website is due to go live in September, shortly before the reissues hit the streets. I'll post a link on this site as soon as their site is up and running.

I don't yet know whether or not you will be able to order the CDs directly from Lomax.

I'm guessing most of you are in the UK or Australia, but does anyone have any idea IF the reissues will get a US release? Before I shell out nearly $100 US dollars for all three, I'd like a shot at buying them domestically...

I think these reissues are a dull idea.

Who will buy em? Go Betweens fans who already have the previous CD releases. At the very least it's bad for the freakin environment!!The CDs have already been reissued once.

'Low' have shown the way forward to deal with odds and sods and produce something worthwhile that fans want with their 'A Lifetime of Temporary Relief' box set. Fantastically priced (bout 15 GBP) you get 50 odd non-album rarities/b-sides etc and a DVD of videos and documentries.

I really don't see the point in the duplication - sure I'm interested in getting stuff I've got on vinyl and unreleased tracks, but why do I want another copy of the album?

Well, it's standard commercial practise to release 'expanded' editions. But putting things in the context of 'art'(man) some of the extra tracks will be only of passing interest to GB die-hards never mind new listeners. Anyway, I think i'd better get back to my rocking chair and cut down on my caffeine...

There is a cd with extra and rare tracks. Thats mt reasoning. Also I have original casette from '88 for 16LL, and vinyl from '87 for Tallulah.I have a LB&TBDE CD with 2 extra tracks bought in early nineties to replace vinyl for which my sister claimed ownership, Overall, I have been holding off buying the CDs, waiting for the extra disc for ages it seems. There is my reasoning at any rate. Its 2004 now, these recordings were made from 1986-88...its a long time.

I dragged my pregnant sister along to Vicar Street, and she loved the gig. My plan is to pass the older cds to her. The baby's due in seven weeks. You never know, if it's a girl, she might call it Tallulah...

I had held off buying the albums on CD until the Circus 2CD reissues came out. At that time I read somewhere that there was no intention of releasing the last three albums in expanded editions and the likelihood was that a compilation of unreleased and rare tracks would be issued instead.

More fool me for believing it I suppose, but I then bought the Beggars CDs and am now going to be buy something I already own - which I'm not usually keen on doing.

Still, I'm happy to do it for the new version of the Clash's "London Calling" and I'm happy to do it for the Go-Betweens. I guess I'm just a marketing person's dream...

It's true - they exist. I'm listening to Disc Two of the Liberty Belle package as I type. Reissues in August, in Japan.

Jetset may do the reissues in the US. Due to the sharp decline of the US dollar we were not able to do it the same way we did last time (which was really just importing the UK copies) and that has caused some delay. However, it now appears we may release our own versions. This will not be till early November at best but they will be cheaper than the imported UK copies.

So if you can wait you might be able to save some money.

Thanks for the reply, Robert! I'm torn between waiting (with bated breath) and shelling out the extra $$$. I miss the days when I worked in an indie record shop and could get imports at cost.

By the way, you guys did an ace job on the first three reissues. I've bought the same Elvis Costello cds at least three times (UK imports, then the Ryko reissues, now the double Rhino versions) and I don't feel like you guys are ripping me off. There's value to the new versions. Kudos...and I hope you guys make money off the deal, as well!

I just lost what I wrote. I'll start again - Basically, the new reissues are very well done in my opinion (although I haven't heard them yet) - there are so many ripoff reissues out there with substandard out-takes or one single 'bonus cuts' to snag in the collector. I like the way these are done on a double-disc so that if you want to listen to the whole album as it was created then you put on the 1st CD, if you want to listen to the relevant out-takes to that album then you put on the complement CD. Perfect. The out-takes appear to have been mindfully put together with strong out-takes and alt. versions. Well-priced too, £10 at Amazon - same as a cheap meal out for two. That's if you live in the UK of course...
By the way has anyone heard these yet?

the second discs are much more listenable fare than the learlier reissues were... the booklets are very attractive too

our own Mr Turner has had a rather major hand in them aswell, kudos to all involved
