I would like some advice about the safest (and cost effective) method of posting vinyl records. I recently sent a vinyl single to a friend in the mail and I was so concerned about its safe arrival that I ignored the postal worker's (sane)advice and I insisted that it be sent in a large box wrapped in bubble wrap with extra large bubbles and I registered it of course. What is the normal (non paranoid) way of sending singles and LPs via the post, e.g. with Ebay sales, within Australia and overseas? I would appreciate some sound advice either on the board or via my email. | ||

Michelle, a strong cardboard envelope has always done fine for me (both sending and, mostly, receiving). I don't recall any ever having gotten smashed. | ||

yes I agree with Padraig, there's not really anything better than the real heavyweight cardboard envelopes which you can get in both 7 and 12''. the 7'' one being made of nothing but rigidity!!!! | ||

v.v. true. i'd expect the real heavyweight anoraks would indeed panic if they saw the transparent floppy sleeves for the 7''s that used to find their way through my post box in the old days within the fanzine world! | ||

Spence, I usually get record mailers from a few of the record shops around here. They'll sell them to me for like a dollar each. They're stiff, solid, and good for one or two records with just enough room for some bubble wrap on ether side. They seem to be designed specifically to fit records. You might want to hit up some record shops, because most places sell stuff on ebay these days, on the side, or do some sort of mail-order, and are likely to have some mailers in supply. I usually recycle the ones I get that are in good shape. Just flip them inside out and off they go. | ||

Thanks for the help everyone. I just knew you kind people would come through for me. I may enquire at a couple of record shops to see what they do. The post office also has cardboard-ish envelopes and bubblewrap envelopes (the one the lady advised me to use). I am assuming also that everyone registers the package for insurance. Is this true? | ||

How is the caravan Spence.The weather is lovely this weekend. Of course it will have been said before but what you need is a Winnebago.But you probably have one of those european Airstreams.The kids love the outdoor camping caravanning experience. | ||

hi jerry its great its a 6 birth and its big and cool. the only thing was some really old person scraped her rover 45 across the side of it, only minor scratches, her rear end is a write off though!  It was really hot last Tue and Wed, almost unbearable given that us Brits ain't used to it!!!! I saw a few Winnebagos, really boring looking things bit like the band!") My twins loved everything about camping thank the God!! They cried when we took the awning down! Bless! |
