Allo, my little bons bons. Maybe I can help with this question, yes? It is a common bad thought that the Great in Great Britain was put there by the British in arrogance. But non, that is wrong, it just means big. Many hundreds of the years ago the ruling class British people talked in the French and their islands were called Bretagne. However also a small part of northern France, just over La Manche, was also called Bretagne. To make difference between the two, one part was called Grande Bretagne in account of its bigger size and one was just called Bretagne. Little Bretagne became Bretagne-Ni ("small Bretagne") and then in the English "Brittany." You can remember the knights who say 'Ni' from Monty's Python and the Holy Grail documentary about this time in history, yes? Bretagne, you must know, is home of the very popular game of boule bretonne. Grande Bretagne ("big Bretagne") became Grand Britannia and then the Great Britain that we know todays. So just Big Britain. I am confused by the television programme "Little Britain" which seems to be set in Great Britain, but there is much British television that I do not understand. I do not understand the reference to the Olympics. It is, how do you say, "all greek to me." Pepe | ||

I think it was the way that Steve Parry guy referred to his team as GB, that's what he means. He seems a bit random the way he posted it. I think drugs may be involved, not necessarily performance enhancing. | ||

Hate to say I told you so, but we are much better on the water than in it. If the sea around the coast of Australia was like ours you wouldn't be overkeen on swimming, we are in more danger from chocolate sharks than real ones! | ||
