I had never heard them until I heard their new 'best of' (Faded Glamour) but they are superb. Anyone care to fill me in on some background details?

This link is inaccurate. Animals That Swim continued until at least 2001 because I saw them in 2000 and 2001 at the Monarch/Barfly. The line up changed slightly but they put out a third LP which I have but I can't remember the name at the moment.
The first time I saw them live (at Shepherds Bush Empire in 1995 or 1996) the singer was still playing drums live. I think he played drums on all the records but in later years when they played live they employed a drummer.
I always found that most of their songs took a few listens to get used to probably because the way the lyrics flow isn't like most conventional songs.

The third LP was Happiness From A Distant Star.
